Shootout loss for the Pens last night. Even at full strength (which the Pens are far from at the moment) Ottawa is one team I wouldn't want to face in the playoffs.
Ottawa gives the Caps fits too. Good news is neither of us would see them until the conference finals which is a lofty goal for the Caps.

Caps average 3.2 goals per game this year. Against Ottawa... 1.0

Caps 2 - Sens 1
Caps 1 - Sens 0
Sens 3 - Caps 0

The King should be back in goal tomorrow for the Rangers. Hopefully, injury is fully healed as playoffs are coming soon.

All 8 playoff spots are basically clinched out West as are 7 of 8 in the East (unless in both cases the playoff teams lose a lot while teams out of playoff position win a lot). Boston, TB and Isles fighting for the final WC spot to face the top team in the Metropolitan which could be Washington, Pitt or Columbus. Lots of excitement coming up over the next 2 weeks.

Flyers are a long shot, but you need to include the Canes in that list. They have games tonight and tomorrow night against the Wings at home (rescheduled game). They win those two, which they should, and they are right in the thick of it.

Good call about the Canes. I missed that they have played the fewest games of those in the running for that final WC spot as well. Boston is in the best shape for tiebreaker purposes as they have 37 regulation/overtime wins which is the first tiebreaker which is 4 more than the next team in the running.

Panthers and Isles lose in regulation, Tampa and Canes each get one point last night. Every game is huge, playoffs have already started in a way.

Tonight...
Preds @ Bruins
Wings @ Canes
Panthers @ Leafs
Senators @ Flyers

The playoff streak is officially over for the Red Wings.

Not a bad quarter century though.

Another big night for the Eastern teams fighting for the last spot...

Isles @ Flyers
Jackets @ Canes
Stars @ Bruins
Wings @ Bolts
Leafs @ Preds

Just need Flyers, Jackets, Stars, Wings and Preds to all win in regulation. Is that asking too much?

This isn't new to Minnesota teams, but the 4 game losing streak has caused a panic among Wild fans.

With 4 to 6 games to go, things are continuing to take shape

In the West, all 8 teams are basically in (LA is not going to catch Nashville)
Chicago will be the 1 seed in the Central and Minnesota will be the 2 seed. Any of the other 6 teams could be the Wild card teams though Edmonton and Anaheim have a leg up on the Pacific

In the East it looks like Washington will play the final Wild Card and Columbus will play Pitt
Montreal should be playing the Rangers. Ottawa should easily be in somewhere with a number of teams fighting for the final Wild Card spot.

Not sure if I'm rooting for that to be the Bruins or Leafs. I certainly don't want the Sens and I don't want the Lightning. Damn Flyers making a push that's simply too late. Strange moment last night in Philly when their goalie passed out while waiting for a center ice faceoff. Flu is going around and hopefully that's all it was.

Minnesota has been playing like crap lately. They could easily go down to the 7 seed.

I'd like to see the Leafs get in, simply because they've sucked for so long.

You are either 1,2,3 in your division or WC 1 or 2 across divisions. They are 7 points up over Nashville and St. Louis and Nashville has 4 games left and St. Louis has 5. At worst they, should be 3 in their division so play in the 2/3 game since they have the tiebreaker against Nashville.

I meant "go down" (no homo) as in "lose," not as in "drop."

I've always said it would be good for hockey to have the Leafs good again. No championships since the 1967 expansion. When Domi was there, I couldn't root for them.

Ah - Makes sense. They will wind up playing the 3 seed in the Central St. Louis likely who is hot as anything right now.
