No one considers Atlanta to be East Coast - that's the South down there.

Actually, Atlanta is pretty full of yankee transplants, which I assume are the only east coasters Alpha knows anything about.

Yankee transplants are not necessarily East Coasters - funny thing about the north, it extends to the west a bit. I think Atlanta has seen a lot of transplants from places like Pittsburgh and the like - no one would call Pittsburgh and that area "East Coasters". They're more like Iowans. Probably explains the driving then.

Fine. I would appreciate if the Northern Palouse is now referred to as being a part of the Inner Mountain West Zone.

Thank you.

I'm not seeing any drivers being at fault. It's those homeless people starting fires.

This situation is an exception, the worst drivers in the US are still in Utah.

Have you ever been in Grand Forks or Minot, ND, near the air base, during the first snow. Stops signs are there as a starting point for the skid marks. It's hilarious watching merica's best brought to their knees by mother nature.

My vote would go to Atlanta, Nashville second. I've saw a person on the Atlanta freeway ride a flat tire so long, hs back quarter panel was entirely scorched. Nashville, they'll back you up 20 miles just to watch a car fire. NYC, they are honking at you all the time, so you know where they are. SF Bay area in California, just stay off the freeway during rush hour, never had any problems otherwise. Denver isn't bad, but the smog hurts my eyes. Salt Lake City was no problem. Like most cities, Minneapolis/St Paul is bad when there is moisture on the road.

I was up in the Minneapolis area on business in November and I was shocked at the volume of traffic in and around Minneapolis, and yes, the poor driving as well. But like you said, like most cities.

This.

And here's why:

The DC metro area has a hugely disproportionate number of immigrants from countries where safe driving and etiquette are not observed, and road death rates are astronomical

I can pick out SE Asian, West African, and Central American drivers with a high rate of accuracy based solely on observing their driving

They do shape up a bit when they hit US roads, but old habits die hard.

Gosh, CID, is there any aspect of international relations on which you are not an expert?

CID: That driver wasn't from Gabon. You could tell by the wide left turn without a signal that she was from Malawi.

IT only has to deal with seasonal migrant workers and old farmers driving tractors in his "town"

Believe me- spend one month in any of those places

Then come back to the US and drive around in DC

It'll all make sense
