Handel wins with 56% in a district Trump only carried by a point or so.Skjellyfetti wrote:That's why he has a decent chance in the runoff. There are a lot of Republicans who won't be that thrilled to vote for her.Baldy wrote: His only chance was to split the Conk vote 11 different ways. Karen Handel (a POS on her own right) will win going away now. The state of Georgia loses on this one.
I don't know if Ossoff will win... but, I don't think Handel wins that easily. It's going to be within a few percentage points, imo.
That district is solid establishment GOP, and a bad litmus test for GOP strength as long as the candidate isnt a complete disaster

Or, conversely, the Dems are spending even more money than the GOP to challenge seats that they don't win. The Dems went all in on this one and it was one they probably should've won - Trump won there, in the Deep South, by just one percentage point just a few months ago, and the GOP base there couldn't have been more divided. How is this not much different than the November election? The opposition was virulently anti-Trump then and he still found a path to a pretty decent electoral win. Here, and in the other three special elections, the Dems had a chance to use the rabid anti-Trump forces and they will likely lose every one of these special elections. IMO, the Dems should have moved away from the Pelosi-based party they are in Congress and found something new, but instead, they doubled down. The Dems will turn this around eventually, for it is politics and things are cyclical, but they've been on a non-White House losing streak for 7 straight years now. Eventually you need to win somewhere other than California and New York.houndawg wrote:Yes, but the conks are spending money to hold seats that should have been safe.Pwns wrote:Ossoff might win a plurality but not a majority. How do you figure the Dems are spending more? The combined GOP spending was double what the Democrats spent.GannonFan wrote:Or, conversely, the Dems are spending even more money than the GOP to challenge seats that they don't win. Ossoff spent more than all 11 Conks he was running against COMBINED.

Re: 2017 Special Elections
They have spent about 8.5 MILLION dollars on that one race, and the DNC is preparing to set another huge pile of cash on fire in the run off.
Conventional wisdom from campaign wonks on both sides say that district is pretty much saturated at 3 million dollars.
That's why I say it was ridiculous to pull out the stops there- a democrat couldn't get a simple majority while running against a four way split vote.
The logic that got Clinton nominated persists- and the mindset began in the last year or so of the Bush presidency... that all Democrats need to do to be successful in any venue (elections, foreign policy, domestic policy) is to just show up (and set money on fire)

Re: 2017 Special Elections
Montana special election is tomorrow.
Gianforte apparently body slammed and punched a Guardian reporter for asking a question about the CBO score.
I think something like 2/3 of the votes are already in. Was a longshot for Quist and I don't think this will change anything.
But...

But...
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/05 ... orter.htmlAt that point, Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him. Faith, Keith and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the man, as he moved on top the reporter and began yelling something to the effect of "I'm sick and tired of this!"
Jacobs scrambled to his knees and said something about his glasses being broken. He asked Faith, Keith and myself for our names. In shock, we did not answer. He then said he wanted the police called and went to leave. Gianforte looked at the three of us and repeatedly apologized. At that point, I told him and Scanlon, who was now present, that we needed a moment. The men then left.
To be clear, at no point did any of us who witnessed this assault see Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte, who left the area after giving statements to local sheriff's deputies.
As for myself and my crew, we are cooperating with local authorities. It is not clear if charges will be filed against Gianforte at this time.

Handel dropped this turd at the debate last night.

Bump for election day.
Question: If Handel loses that means the donks will blame sexism and not anger at Trump, am I right?

its like the GOP down there decided the Dem strategy in the presidential election was the way to go
I'm now thinking this seat may flip

Well, she won't be the dumbest person representing DeKalb County. Her colleague in the 4th district has that wrapped up.

But Hillary beat Trump in all three debates. I'm talking about both in terms of any reasonable assessment of substance and in terms of public perception among those who won the debates.CID1990 wrote: I used to think this would be a walkover but after hearing Handel in a debate-

Remember, also, that if the Presidential election was just about who gets more votes Hillary would've won.

Re: 2017 Special Elections
BTW as I said in the other thread I created because I didn't see this when looking for a discussion of the Georgia 6th: I think the fact that this is even close is a bad sign for the Republicans. Yes, I know Trump didn't win by much there. But it's also true that this is the District Newt Gingrich represented. I think that if Republicans would've thought there was ANY chance that a Democrat could take this seat Price would not have been nominated to be Secretary of HHS.

Re: 2017 Special Elections
Yeah, Democrats could really use a win here.
But, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter that much. Whoever wins will be right back in a race this time next year and the seat could flip the opposite direction.
