If they can close the loop holes corporations have enjoyed for years and tax the off shore earnings fairly, 15% may actually be more than what corporations are paying now......

Yeah, that works out fine when everybody else is charging the same...However, when you get tax havens like Ireland, Luxembourg, etc., and tax loopholes you can drive a truck through, things have to change. We need to have a special amnesty period, give them a year with a low tax rate to incentivize all those democratic/lib run companies to repatriate the gazillion dollars they have parked overseas and put it to use here.

It's a different world. It's fine to post corporate tax rates when Truman was in office, but how much business was done internationally then, and oh, wasn't much of the world other than the US pretty much war-torn and devastated by a very recent World War? In this day and age, with so many different countries and so many different tax structures, it's inefficient to be taxing corporations like we do. There is power in simplification - reduce the corporate tax to very little and then ensure that personal income taxes are progressively structured so that the rich pay what you think they should pay. Also make sure that wealth from corporate activity can't be sheltered from being called income. When we make taxation difficult and convoluted is when we end up with the "rich get richer" issue that so many progressives seem to be upset about. When it's complicated those who can afford the tax experts end up winning. Make it simple. Reduce the corporate tax and make sure to firm up the personal tax.

That's reasonable. Our effective rate is nowhere near the top and we constantly pick winners and losers.

Everybody benefits from government spending. But the distortion that comes from the thinking that all economic gains come from the government and taxation is basically government deciding what to allow people to keep leads to stagnation and limited economic growth. Like I said, let people go out and earn their money by working hard and being innovative and inventive. Make sure that people can't hide their money in corporate shelters and then lower or even eliminate corporate taxation and tax personal income accordingly. Make it simple and it's harder to mess up.

Exactly, the effective rate is a reflection of the fact that different groups have better success at finding loopholes or gaming the system. Lower the corporate taxation levels and this problem starts to go away. When it's complicated we end up rewarding people for being able to game the system, not rewarding them for being good entrepreneurs or inventors or the like. I'd rather we do the latter.

Well hang on to your hats folks because a recent Pew poll showed that as we speak, a majority of Americans prefer a large govt with more services over a small govt with fewer services

And a majority of Americans believe in the concept of the free lunch. They want all these services, but they want somebody else to pay for them. That's why this country is fucked.

Makes sense since recent actions show that the majority of Americans are dumber than shit.
