Because the ref prematurely blew the whistle. They patiently waited for the first 30 seconds of the scrum as the puck was loose, but then blew it dead when the puck wasn't even close to be covered. It wasn't incidental goalie interference because the face off stayed in the zone. The announcers completely whiffed that HUGE gaffe by the refs.

Man, I've never seen a team that can look so good in the regular season for so many years and then just fold like a cheap suit every April/May. Closest thing to this for me was the Buddy Ryan Eagles, but their regular seasons weren't this good.

Washington fans are starting to rise in the tortured fanbase standings. There were so many Caps hats, shirts, lanyards, etc in the office last week. I'm guessing there will be less this week.

Caps = no cups despite 3 Prez Trophies
Flyers = no cups in 42 years
Eagles = no super bowls
Nats = no NLCS appearances despite awesome regular seasons
Hens = not even a shell of their former selves
Terps = unless you get excited about lacrosse, not a whole lot to be happy about

The only amazing thing is that I still watch and care. Horrible case of Stockholm syndrome I guess.
