Indeed. The French election shows what happens with an election where two opponents basically come from outside of the normal political spectrum. Le Pen would've destroyed Hollande if he had run again, just like Trump was able to beat the status quo candidate in Hillary. Bernie would've in all probability beaten Trump, but the Democratic party elite didn't want the people voting that way and rigged it otherwise.

On another note, strange, the left here in America seems perfectly fine with a white male from a privileged background beating a female candidate who was trying to be the first female President in her country. Nary a suggestion that misogyny was the reason for the outcome. :coffee:
Wrong. Hillary lost b/c of Comey and Russia.
It had nothing to do with her having an unprotected homegrown server in her basement.
It had nothing to do with her and her aides sending classified emails to those that weren't cleared to know.
It has nothing to do with her being untrustworthy.
It had nothing to do with the DNC usurping the role of the Democratic voter and allowing the better Democrat win (Bernie).
It had nothing to do with her husband having a meeting with the AG, days before she was to speak with the FBI.

Nope...it was all because Russia, allegedly, spilled the beans on how bad her campaign and the DNC was and Comey trying to do the right thing.

I'm getting some good lulz in with US media outlets referring to Marine Le Pen as "conservative".

I guess it just doesn't compute with some that the candidate who is liberal on economics could be the "zOMG Hitler!!1" candidate.

The National Front makes a lot of US donks look like tea partiers and makes a lot of Republicans seem like open-border diversity-philes.

Democrats should learn from this...
Both Macron and France were well-prepared for any sort of last-minute shakeup that had the promise of throwing a historic election on its head, however. The incoming French president and his campaign refused to take such attacks lying down, after first reporting several of its members were targeted in online phishing incidents weeks before Le Pen visited Russia and met with Putin.

Macron's En Marche! campaign unleashed an operation attacking those hackers and their ability to gain accurate log-in information. "Every week we send to the team screen captures of all the phishing addresses we have found during the week … we also do counteroffensive against them," Mounir Mahjoubi, Macron's head of digital, told the Daily Beast in the final weeks of the election.

When staff members received fake emails leading them to log-in pages hackers could use to record keystrokes, Macron’s digital team flooded those landing pages with fake passwords and other data, confusing the hackers and making it virtually impossible to gain access to the campaign’s emails.

"You can flood these addresses with multiple passwords and log-ins, true ones, false ones, so the people behind them use up a lot of time trying to figure them out," Mahjoubi said.

People are comparing Macron to Tony Blair as a "market progressive." I'm not sure I buy it. There are many reasons to dispute that analogy, the lack of a real supporting political party being just one of them. Macron is a cipher: seems to have no bedrock principles of his own.

So embarrassing to see the French easily deal with hacking attempts. I thought we were supposed to be good at that computer stuff.
