Comey effed up when he treated Clinton better than a common citizen by not seizing her server when they had reasonable suspicion that something was going on. I've said it before, but if any of us were under suspicion the FBI would have kicked the door in and seized our electronic records immediately, not allow us to personally parse the information and release it to them in chunks over 12 months or more. Comey did all but indict her at the press conference, but you can't expect Lynch to pursue charges when she and Bill were meeting on the Phoenix tarmac talking about grandkids :ohno:

Hillary had an October surprise with the pussygate deal, Comey and the FBI somehow went through thousands of emails on Weinergate over a weekend but Clinton thinks Comey negatively impacted her. The Clintons shot themselves in the foot so many times her credibility was in shambles by early November anyway.

Were the Russians involved in the election? Probably, just as they likely have been for years. It would be a bit hypocritical of the US to cast stones for influencing elections. Was there collusion on the part of the Trump campaign? I have no idea, but if Trump and Putin are buddies they certainly aren't playing nice right now.

That being said, I think we'll be watching Pence take the reigns before the first term is out. Trump will either face impeachment for something or he'll get mad, take his ball and go home. :twocents:

Pretty much this. Especially the last paragraph. I'd be surprised if he lasts the full term.

I don't care what side of the aisle you're on, optically, this whole thing seems fishy as ****. Trump and company are certainly acting like they have something damning to hide.

Heck, Trump an co. might not even be worried about the FBI finding Russian ties; they might be worried about the FBI uncovering shady offshore accounts and multi-national shell companies during the course of its investigation...all impeachable items if not correctly disclosed.
The optics are the worst thing about it

It is sort of like Bill Clinton meeting the AG on the tarmac

But like the tarmac meeting, it so egregiously suspicious that it probably signifies gross poor judgment and little else

You think a former POTUS and current AG didn't understand the bad optics of the two meeting on a tarmac days before the POTUS' wife was set to talk with the FBI?

Clinton's aren't stupid. They're a crafty, clever couple.

I'd say it's a push. Trump is in office, so he has the microscope on him right now. If Hillary was in office, you would have seen much of the same crap, just different party in charge.

Mr. Comey was addressing a group of F.B.I. employees in Los Angeles when a television in the background flashed the news that he had been fired.
In response, Mr. Comey laughed, saying he thought it was a fairly funny prank.

Then his staff started scurrying around in the background and told Mr. Comey that he should step into a nearby office.

Mr. Comey stopped addressing the group. He proceeded to shake hands with the employees he had been speaking to. Then he stepped into a side office, where he confirmed that he had been fired. At that point, he had not heard from the White House.

Shortly thereafter, a letter from Mr. Trump was delivered to the F.B.I.’s headquarters, just seven blocks from the White House.

Wow...talk about unprofessional.

Pat Buchanan was speaking on Hannity's show yesterday afternoon ( I know...I can't stand SH either) and he made a very interesting parallel (hold off on dissecting this, Gannon): This past election and current administration is quite Nixonian. I found this on his website..it's an interesting read:

https://www.creators.com/read/pat-buchanan
Both men had their elections challenged by the toxic charge that they colluded with foreign powers to influence the outcome.

Nixon's aides were accused of conspiring with Saigon to torpedo Lyndon Johnson's Paris peace talks. Trump aides were charged with collusion with Vladimir Putin's Russia to disseminate stolen emails of the Democratic National Committee. The U.S. establishment, no stranger to the big lie, could not and cannot accept that the nation preferred these outsiders.

Nixon took office with 525,000 troops tied down in Vietnam. Trump inherited Afghanistan, the longest war in U.S. history, and wars in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Yemen.

Nixon pledged to end the Vietnam War with honor and begin an era of negotiations — and did. Trump promised to keep us out of new Mideast wars and to reach an accommodation with Russia.

Nixon and Trump both committed to remake the Supreme Court. Having pledged to select a Southerner, Nixon saw two of them, Judges Clement Haynsworth and Harrold Carswell, savaged by the Senate.

Now the talking heads say this is the first step towards impeachment. oh Lawdy!

http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/09/opinions/ ... index.html
All of this puts Trump in the first mile of the Richard Nixon road to impeachment. It took Nixon, a skilled and experienced hand at manipulating the levers of power, almost two full terms in office before his abuse of power was detected and effectively prosecuted.

Of course I think they understood it. That's why I say it was poor judgment and probably little else.

Clinton didn't have to talk about his wife's case. Just the "chance" encounter alone was enough to remind the AG who originally gave her her start, and who she would be working for in the next four to eight years.

They probably actually did talk about grandchildren.

I don't disagree, at the end of this Trump could be very Nixonian. But we're far from the end of this right now. Investigations will continue, and Trump will need to appoint someone respectable enough to lead the FBI. I'm not sure he could nominate anyone and expect to get any Democratic votes in favor, but that's more a reflection of our political climate than anything else (both Trump's penchant to screw things up and Dem's reluctance to anger the alt-left with anything that looks like cooperation with Trump). I don't get the idea that the GOP Senate will allow him to appoint a rubber stamp. I would highly doubt there would be a special prosecutor. Again, Dems shot themselves in the foot on that one when they so effectively vilified Ken Starr and the office of special prosecutor, hence why we've only had one since then (Patrick Fitzgerald) and that was done outside of the now dormant statute. There would need to be such clear evidence of wrongdoing by Trump before a special prosecutor would be entertained and by then you wouldn't even need one anyway.

Also, besides the first paragraph, the other comparisons of Trump and Nixon (the inheriting of armed conflicts and the promise to end them, and the commitment to remake the Supreme Court) are pretty vague and general and could apply to many other Presidents. Heck, Obama faced those same issues and made the same general remarks and you could make an Obama/Nixon parallel if you really wanted to, or an Obama/Trump one too for what that's worth.

No, because that isn't how the FBI works. Comedy's replacement will be briefed on the status of the investigation and it will continue without pause.

"FBI, DOJ roiled by Comey, Lynch decision to let Clinton slide by on emails, says insider

The decision to let Hillary Clinton off the hook for mishandling classified information has roiled the FBI and Department of Justice, with one person closely involved in the year-long probe telling FoxNews.com that career agents and attorneys on the case unanimously believed the Democratic presidential nominee should have been charged.

The source, who spoke to FoxNews.com on the condition of anonymity, said FBI Director James Comey’s dramatic July 5 announcement that he would not recommend to the Attorney General’s office that the former secretary of state be charged left members of the investigative team dismayed and disgusted. More than 100 FBI agents and analysts worked around the clock with six attorneys from the DOJ’s National Security Division, Counter Espionage Section, to investigate the case.

“No trial level attorney agreed, no agent working the case agreed, with the decision not to prosecute -- it was a top-down decision,” said the source, whose identity and role in the case has been verified by FoxNews.com.............."
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/10 ... sider.html

Comey completely botched the biggest investigation of his career, and caused the rank and file within the FBI to totally lose faith in him. Trumps mistake was not canning him earlier...
For purposes of comparison, BD, how many FBI agents and analysts are working around the clock with how many attorneys from the DOJ's National Security Division, Counter-Espionage Section, to investigate this case?

That's what I thought... :coffee:
