Just don't let anyone tell you the Union went to war to free the slaves. B/c that is certainly not true (at least not until after Gettysburg). It was a war to preserve the union and economics.

If this SC steel plant for Charlotte based Nucor is typical of the industry, they (workers and management) are still optimistic about Trump's economic plan as it relates to the steel industry. Since the 80s they have cut from about 10 to .4 man hrs required to produce a ton of steel. Also shows that it can work well for a non union plant to have highly trained (12-18 month hiring & training process) & paid (80k avg in a lower cost of living state) employees with a no layoff tradition (in lean times, even during the Grest Recession, hours & pay can fall, but the job & bennies remains).

I figured you'd have something to say since it was about an SC plant for a Charlotte based company..

I know a few people that have gone to work at that plant and others in Berkeley and Orangeburg counties. :thumb: They have vocational training and have been there since we graduated HS in 2001. From what I can tell and heard, they love it there, and make good money.

I didn't know it was based out of Charlotte.

I look forward to the day I'm old, Trump's been long-dead, and history has written him off as one of the worst Presidents of all time. His laziness and lack of curiosity to understand anything is quite pathetic.

Everyone in this shit-show of an administration, and the enablers on the sidelines, will fall on the wrong side of history. And that's the hilarious thing: a man that's been OBSESSED about being loved his entire life will be eternally remembered as complete garbage. But he's made his bed...

This is all minor BS that affects very few people. If he gets a healthcare bill passed, a solid tax reform bill passed, and throw in some immigration reform, he will have done his job. Those are the things that really matter.

A healthcare bill that will fuck over a large proportion of the people who elected him? Brilliant!

Oh please. You think people aren't getting fucked over now? Millions of people have insurance that they don't use because of high deductibles. Does that really count as having insurance?

No. So lay out how Trump's plan is going to be an improvement.

It's like climate change. I sincerely hope he's right! And I really do want him to come up with a plan that provides health coverage for all and reduces the cost of care and insurance. Something similar to, as Trump admits, Australia.

I'm all ears!

2 things:
1) Flaggy, my family has a plan with a high deductible and I love it. The reduced monthly premiums more than make up for the higher deductible (i.e. more money in my pocket at the end of the year). The key to controlling the initial costs is to be a smarter consumer of healthcare - tough it out for the basic ailments, use the CVS/Walgreens or similar clinic for basic things like a sinus infection that requires a Rx antibiotic and go to the doctor if it might be serious.

2) WTAG, many of those people were going to get ****** over regardless. Obamacare is a financial disaster that was imploding and would leave those people with nothing. Fixing it required a compromise that was going to cause some pain. The Republicans have not done a good job of communicating that part of reality and they're going to pay for it in future elections.
Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

As a society, we need to determine what we actually want from health insurance. The ACA is primarily designed to be a safety net from catastrophic events, items that were bankrupting (and killing) people when that didn't have to be the case. The cost structures aren't really designed for typical doctor visits, and I think that's why people are annoyed - they're paying more for the most common health care items.

On the flip side, individual insurance plans before the ACA lowered co-pays for doctor visits, but screwed a lot of people when a catastrophic event occurred and they exceeded their cap limit. Lives were being lost and entire families could potentially face financial ruin.

So that brings me back to the original statement: what do we actually want from insurance? In its purest form, insurance is supposed to protect you from a worst-case scenario. In that way, the ACA functions as intended. But obviously Americans expect insurance to help them with day-to-day costs as well. So how do we do that? Is it an overhauled ACA? Is it private insurance with more oversight? Is it single-payer? Or is it a hybrid of public and private insurance?
