He's out for the year...again.

So, for those keeping track at home

2014-2015: missed entire season with injury
2015-2016: missed entire season with injury
2016-2017: missed 50 games with injury. Playing 25 minutes per game was too taxing on his body and he broke down after just 31 games played.

For his career he's played in just 12% of all possible games.

For reference - the much maligned, often made fun of for his injuries, Greg Oden played in 21% of possible games played during his 6 year career.

Embiid has 243 regular season games left to be in the league as long as Oden. He needs to play in 31% of games over the next 3 years to equal Greg Odem for being an injury prone bust.
Eh, hard to judge since the Sixers had no intentions of winning even coming into those first years and then this year since once Simmons went down the Sixers were never going to take any risks trying to win now with what they had. That was the bummer of that happening, especially considering all three centers (Noel and Okafor too) were coming back from injuries. Next year will be the real telling year - Saric looks fantastic, Simmons will be back, there'll be another guard in the mix from the draft who should start, the bench looks great, and then you have Embiid. Now, he can't be compared to Oden because when Oden played he was never as fantastic as Embiid has been when he's played. Just can't discount that factor. Heck, Embiid has probably done more in the league now in 31 games, at limited time in those 31 games, than Oden did in his whole career. Next year is the make or break moment for the Sixers - playoffs are certainly reasonable and should be expected. How they meet or miss that goal will tell a lot.

Ralph Sampson is thinking of making a comeback...and the Sixers are calling.

Ganny, you crack me up! Heck! Let's put Embiid in the HOF right now for "best injury-plagued 31-game career ever!"

I'm with clenz on this one. Even money on Simmons' comeback, BTW.

All I was saying was that the comparison to Oden is a little off. Oden was hurt a lot too, but even when he played he didn't look particularly good. Embiid has played less and yet look spectacular in that limited time. That's all. Outside of debating Embiid and Oden, Embiid has to get healthy enough to play, say, 70 games next year, even if it's just 25 minutes per game. Do that and the Sixers should be looking at the playoffs, which is where they need to be next year. Certainly doable if the injured guys still aren't injured. Big if of course.

DeMarcus Cousins has said Embiid will eventually become the best big man in the league.

A healthy Embiid would be the best big man in the league as early as next year. Of course, though, it all hinges on health. Next year is a big test for the Sixers as they should be a playoff team.

Looks like a Cleveland / Golden State finals again.

In other news, a few key Timberwolves players are not happy with the new coach. Hearing rumors the top players would like to leave after their rookie contracts are up.

Wizards going to make DC suffer through another Game 7 on Monday (or is the team who has to face the Cavs in the conference finals the team that will really suffer?)

I'm a Celtics fan but I have to agree with you here. Until this year, the Celtics hadn't won a playoff series since 2102 and now they are in the Eastern Finals. Kind of over achieved for what was envisioned at the start of the year as they ended up winning the conference and 1st 2 playoff rounds....But, ...Don't think they can take Cleveland in a playoff series. Hope I'm wrong though.....Hope they get the #1 pick this year!

Not now that those dirty motherfuckers took out SA's best player.

If I were Pops, Curry would have been missing some teeth and Durant would have had a broken leg before that game was over.

Funny how a play where the only contact was Kawhi landing on Zazas foot is now the dirtiest play in sports.

IT WASNT EVEN A FOUL!!!!

I would caution you about assaulting Curry.....you wouldnt want to piss off the single most skilled player in the NBA.......you might make him focus and become scary good..............like tonight

Why was a team that's in the conference finals even eligible for the draft lottery? What a silly sport.

I think they also have their 1 next year too.

The Nets got Garnett, Pierce and Jason Terry in the trade. Worst trade in pro sports history

Hard to feel sorry for Pops and San Antonio, since they had two of the all-time dirtiest players (bowen and Horry) on the roster for years.

It would be interesting to put that trade up against the Hershel Walker one the vikings made!

Happy with the Sixers spot in the draft - picking at #3 they should take Josh Jackson (I'd be fine with a look at Tatum as well - pick the best of the two). Couple that with signing JJ Reddick on the offseason and the starting five for the Sixers would be: Jerryd Bayless, JJ Reddick, Josh Jackson, Ben Simmons, and Joel Embiid. You'd have Saric coming off the bench along with Holmes, Covington, TLC, McConnell, maybe Henderson, and Justin Anderson. In the East, that's not just a playoff roster, but maybe even in the realm of 4-5 seed. Expectations are tempered, of course, by the health of Embiid (not as worried about Simmons health, Embiid is the long term issue), but that would be a very good defensive team with enough scoring punch to be dangerous. I don't think the Lakers are making the playoffs next year, so the Sixers would still have lottery picks in 2018 and 2019 (they get the Kings pick then) even with themselves not being in the lottery. The worm is turning. :thumb:

This whole undressing of the Celtics should drastically change the scope of the upcoming draft. The Celtics as currently constructed are a good team that has zero chance of winning a title, and drafting Fultz won't move the needle in that regard. Gotta think the #1 pick is on the table now in terms of a trade, even after the Celtics get Hayward in the offseason. They don't have any presence on the interior, either offensively or defensively. Certainly makes it more interesting.
