Not to provide any excuses, but the room was set up for Fox reporters to do a private interview. All other reporters were in another room or in the hallway. The door was ajar and this guy walked in to try to ask a couple of questions.
He is quoted as saying something to the effect that it was an open area. But it technically wasn't, and that is why only Fox reporters witnessed it. Everyone else was honoring the privacy and were outside.
Gianforte snapped once he figured out that this guy wasn't supposed to be in there.
So Jacobs "politely" jumped the fence to go swimming in the neighbor's pool.
