Already less than even money to repeat next year. This is why the NBA sucks. Too easy to build a super team that is near impossible to beat.

From 2012-2017, 6 years
NHL 3 different teams won championships, Pittsburgh last 2.
NBA 4 different teams, Golden State 2 of last 3
NFL 5 different teams, New England 2 of last 3
MLB 5 different teams starting in 2011

Pittsburgh was the first team in 18 years to repeat as champion. In that same time frame:

2000-02: Lakers 3x
2009-10: Lakers 2x
2012-13: Heat 2x

The NBA Finals in that span has almost always featured Kobe, LaBron, Wade or Duncan. Has there even been a year where one of those four wasn't in the final?

I just pulled recent history, consecutive years, did you want to go back further for Montreal's 24 cups. No NBA team has won 20 championships.

Go back a little further (2009) and it holds true again:

NHL 4 different teams won titles (Blackhawks and Penguins have won 3 each in that time)
NBA 5 different teams won titles (none of the NBA super teams have won 3 in the same time period)

Pretty much all of the championships have been won by super teams, haven't they? The fact that Cleveland can go from an NBA Final and finishing 1st in the East two years in a row to finishing 15th, 15th, 13th, 10th, then James comes back and they go to three Finals in a row... tells you all you need to know.

Crosby and Kane have won as many titles as Lebron in that timeframe.

Not my fault he can't close the deal. How many NBA teams have come back from an 0-3 hole in the playoffs to win?

Huh? Now you're calling the 2011 Dallas Mavericks, a team that had never won a title before nor since, a super team? And what was Golden State before they won their first title 2 years ago? You need to go back to the Latrelle Sprewell/Chris Mullin teams to find them competitive before they were able to pull together the core of the team that won the title two years ago from shrewd drafting and good development. If you're arguing that one player can have more of an impact in basketball than in hockey then gee, that's amazing statistical analysis by you to recognize that roster sizes are much smaller in the NBA than the NHL.

How are the Pens and Blackhawks and Kings not super teams in the NHL since 2009? That's 7 of the 9 titles in the NHL in that time. You can't find three teams in the NBA that did the same.

You seem to want to argue against that point.

Which part of this wasn't clear?

The part that wasn't clear was that you say the NBA sucks because of super teams dominating the championships and then the NHL, which you claim doesn't suck, having even more dominance of the championship by super teams. You seem to have a pretty big blind spot when it comes to the NHL. Care to explain? :coffee:

There's a disconnect here. I think you're focusing on the super team rather than the "too easy". My objection is that a team can basically buy a championship caliber team by convincing one or two players to come play for them. Surely you don't disagree with that premise. I like seeing teams that are constructed with many parts to win championships. NHL teams that are constructed from the ground up should win more championships because they don't lose a single player that sends them to the cellar of the league. Again, look no further than the Cavaliers. First to near worst to first all because of one player.

And then the Warriors drafter Green, Thompson and Steph. Sign and trade for Iggy. KD as a Free Agent. Constructed with many parts to win. They did win one without KD.

Agree with Gil - I can't really think of a super team or championship team that was built entirely (or at least the part that mattered) from just convincing some players to come play for them. The Heat already had Wade and he had already won a title without Lebron. The Spurs are a perfect example of a team that pulled together a bunch of different parts and made them work into a title team. And Gil has neatly explained that the bulk of Golden State came through good drafting.
