Ho Hum....Another Political Sex Scandal....

Nevada Sen. John Ensign admits extramarital affair

LAS VEGAS – Nevada Republican John Ensign apologized for having an affair with a member of his campaign staff more than a year ago and says he remains "deeply committed" to his service in the U.S. Senate.

In Las Vegas on Tuesday, Ensign called the affair "absolutely the worst thing that I have ever done in my life," and said he and his wife sought counseling and reconciled.

He didn't name the staffer or her husband, and took no questions after issuing his statement.

He called the woman and her husband "close friends," and said that close relationship at a difficult time in his marriage "led me to my inappropriate behavior."

Ensign was first elected to the Senate in 2000.

Ensign has been a member of the men's ministry the Promise Keepers, a Christian ministry.
More from the "Do I Say, Not as I Do" camp.
He had been highly critical of former Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, who served in Congress for a quarter-century when he was arrested in an airport bathroom sex sting. Ensign stopped short of urging him to resign but suggested strongly that he should.

"I wouldn't put myself hopefully in that kind of position, but if I was in a position like that, that's what I would do," Ensign said. "He's going to have to answer that for himself." In the end, Craig served out his term.

Ho Hum?

Dude you're usually much sharper than that! Here we have a Republican sex scandal, with a woman, of all things, and all you can say is ho hum?

As long as his wife forgives him and his constituents deem him worthy to proceed in the Senate, who cares.

Exactly.....wish he would have used that same thought process before condemning others for similar transgressions.....more governing, less pontificating....

The guy's a hypocrite, no doubt. I also seriously doubt this is his first time, only the first time he got caught. Personally, I don't care - he's got to live with his demons and if his fans don't demand his head, then let him continue on. He certainly won't be able to get on his moral soapbox anymore with any legitimacy.

This just goes to show you that getting wood and using it runs the gamut from the far left, independents, and the far right - nobody has a monopoly on adultery.

All he did was violate his marriage vows and those of one of his staffers...

it's not like he hired a hooker to drees him up in a diaper and "nurse" him...

I don't think anyone here thinks they're perfect but many (Conks, Donks and Libertarians) find it both hypocritical and humorous when a bible-thumping, family values Republican gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar. As Dawg mentioned, at least this clown was messing around with someone of the opposite sex (not that there is anything wrong with the alternative, it just makes the hypocrisy call the worse when an opponent of all things homosexual is busted doing the top tap courtship routine in a bathroom stall).

Maybe we need to stop trying to elect candidates who appear perfect and instead accept the people have flaws and that maybe those flaws and the experiences they bring will make some of the candidates better elected officials.

Not I, normally. The part that gives me pause is that he was banging the hired help, leaving open the door to accusations that the woman was coerced and feared losing her job if she didn't go along. Not saying that's how it was, but he wouldn't be the first Republican Senator from a western state to be accused of rape.

So what happens if the aggrieved husband drags the esteemed Senator out into the street and kicks the bejeezus out of him in front of God and everybody? No charges pressed?

 Ensign/Gingrich - the family values ticket.

Agree with the rest of you. Houndawg and 88 said it best as far as that goes. It isn't any of my fuckin' business what someone else is doing if it doesn't affect me even if I don't believe in what they're doing. The hypocrisy is what kills me because it ain't any of there fucking business what you and me or anyone else is doing either but it doesn't stop em' from trying to get in outhers kitchens.
