I have never paid much attention to the "repeal and replace" BS
Anyone who knows anything about our society knows that this game was over when the original law passed
The best thing the GOP could have done (and really their only option) was to try to patch up the ACA only

They might try to brand it differently and state things in ways that are intended to fool their base into thinking they repealed and replaced it. But the most they're going to do is adjust it. The basic premise that government is going to ensure health are as a "right" is not going to change. They’ll fix Obamacare, and I shouldn’t have called it repeal and replace because that’s not what’s going to happen. They’re basically going to fix the flaws and put a more conservative box around it

Congress has blown its load on healthcare. There will be one or two more weak attempts, but bet your ass there are reps up for reelection in 2018 who are already testing the "it's too tangled to repeal... Obama designed it that way" campaign BS
At least nothing has passed- the ACA is still limping along. Before, I said it needs to be fixed now before states start losing all of their insurers - and people start to suffer
But I am coming around to the idea that many Americans need a dose of reality and having the ACA collapse might be the prescription

Worst thing conks could do is pass some so called "fix" or "repeal" or whatever they are calling that turd they are working on in the Senate, which may extend the life of the turd by another decade or 2, giving the left plenty of time to spin the fairy tale of how the Republicans 'ruined Obamacare'..

Re: Wheres the Republican alternative to ACA?
Problem with this is all those folks that get crushed by paying ridiculous premiums for shit coverage with really high deductibles will realize that the conks were full of shit with their "repeal and replace" platform that they just might stay home during the next midterm election...or vote for someone else (assuming donks actually pull their heads out of their asses).BDKJMU wrote:Yep, best thing the conks could do is to continue to let the donks own Obamacare and let it collapse on its own- which it will do.CID1990 wrote:

You can't run on a "we'll fix it" platform, get in power and do nothing, and expect there to be no fallout. Lose-lose situation for conks.
Plus there is always the Trump factor...he might just turn on the establishment conks that are preventing anything from getting done and bolster a new "drain the swamp" effort.
Either way we are all in for a lot of lolz.

Re: Wheres the Republican alternative to ACA?
I'm not a fan of the Affordable Care Act just because I think the fact that the public has generally accepted the idea that health care is a "right" is a bad thing. But I still have to marvel at how people will make bad decisions then blame the system for their problems.
Today I saw an interview with a woman complaining about the cost of her premiums under the ACA. But here's the thing: She retired at 62. She was talking about being covered by Medicare at 65. So anyway she had a job with an employer provided health plan such that she was paying $40 per month for health insurance. She retired and the best she could get under the ACA with comparable coverage is $800 per month. She's a diabetic and she was complaining that because insurance cost so much she just went without it so didn't get all the treatment and medication she needed.
My thing is: Why the hell didn't she wait until she was 65 and was covered by Medicare to retire? I mean, when she's got diabetes and she's covered for $40 per month and the cost is going to go to $800 a month if she retires why the hell would she retire at 62?
