Overreaching Dems Trying End Around to Remove Trump

Post by SuperHornet »

Apparently, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has introduced a bill to create an "oversight commission" with the authority to declare the President "incompetent" and thereby remove him. This commission stems from the 25th Amendment, and was designed in the aftermath of the assassination of JFK; such commission has never been implemented.

Raskin knows full well that an impeachment will never go down given the composition of the Congress right now, so he's pulling THIS stunt. It's a stretch, though, given that it's even an end around the spelled-out incompetency procedure contained in the 25th Amendment: the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet must declare the President "unable to discharge the powers and duties" of the office. Yet even that won't work if the President is still functioning, because HE can block the move himself, or having been set aside, can take his position back upon recovery. The commission stems from some vague language about "any other such body as the Congress may by law provide." Yet even in THAT case, the Vice President must concur. Does anyone see THAT coming from Pence? I don't THINK so.

Yet another Democratic overreach when they can't get their way. SMH....

Raskin is a publicity seeker, nothing more...

Pay no attention to him...even some Democrats don't...

He actually should be removed from office because he actually is pretty obviously mentally ill.

But if you say that it's not going to happen because the Republicans control Congress I can't disagree with that.

And precisely what medical credentials do you have to support that conclusion?

Or do you take the approach to mental illness that Justice Potter Stewart took to pornography: you can't diagnose it, but you know it when you see it?

Many years ago I worked in New Orleans. Frequently, before work while I was walking along the street, I'd see a woman who would be talking to someone who wasn't there. Sometimes she'd be sitting at a table with a coffee cup in front of her and a coffee cup across from her in front of another chair, having a conversation. Talking. Stopping and acting like she was listening. Talking again. I didn't need credentials to tell that she had issues.

Or if I see someone walking down the street and they suddenly fall to the ground, start turning purple, and gasping I don't have to be a MD to tell that they've got some kind of physical problem and that it's possibly a heart attack.

Anybody with a lick of sense who wants to see can see that Trump has mental health issues.

Nevertheless, I anticipated that people would come with stuff like you came with in the quoted post a long time ago. As I wrote in an earlier post, I formed the opinion that Trump has mental health problems shortly after he started opening his mouth subsequent to his announcement that he was running for President. But I did not post anything about my opinion until after I checked to see if there are people who do have credentials such as you are referencing who were also expressing the opinion that he is mentally ill. I had no problem finding them.

If you want to see statements by people with the credentials you are looking for expressing the opinion that Trump is mentally ill, Google it.

Besides, as I've also written, there comes a point where anybody can see that someone is off in the head and/or that someone acts in a very immature and unstable fashion. Trump's behavior moved well past that point a long time ago.

Anybody with a lick of sense who wants to see can see that Trump has some serious mental issues.

Or when someone on a message board types extremely long posts that are paragraphs, even pages long, of virtually the same thing, over and over, that no one reads. You don't need credentials to tell they have issues.

Nevertheless, if "credentials" is what you want, there are plenty of people with credentials who say Trump has mental issues. Here is one example:

http://www.lancedodes.com/new-york-times-letter

I used that site because it has a list of 33 people with "credentials" who signed on. The letter published in the New York Times is at https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/13/opin ... .html?_r=0.

The part that is REALLY consistent with my own impression from early on is this:
We believe that the grave emotional instability indicated by Mr. Trump’s speech and actions makes him incapable of serving safely as president.
What I concluded long ago is that Trump is a person with serious emotional maturity and stability problems. It's obvious. And you guys HAVE to know it's obvious if you're really honest about it.

BTW having said all that I don't know if the Constitution provides for removing a President because he's mentally ill. I'm guessing our Framers didn't contemplate circumstances in which there would be the kind of system for choosing electors that we have today then we'd have enough people do something THAT stupid by virtue of their votes so that we'd end up having an obviously mentally ill person in the President's position

No, that's just the easiest thing to do. There is a LOT out there in terms of professionals in the field thinking Donald Trump is mentally ill. I could do links and say "look at this" and "look at that" or I can just say "Google it."
