To me it wasn't so much the body language - but, the brilliant idea hatched in the room to conduct a "joint cybersecurity taskforce" with Russia to investigate things like election meddling.

Do you think this was Donald's or Tillerson's idea - or do you think it was floated by Lavrov/Putin, and embraced surprisingly well by Trump?

I think Trump gave lip service to it, if they ever start working on it I will be surprised.

An example of sounding good in a meeting with no advisors to tell you it's a bad idea. If Fiona Hill or McMaster had been allowed to attend - this idea would have been squashed immediately.

It isn't a matter of Trump thinking it through - it's a matter of his advisors explaining to him what an awful idea it is.

And, I agree... no way in hell it happens.

His body language was totally submissive during the meeting with Putin. There is no doubt that Vladimir is calling the shots. Trump even said he had no agenda going into the meeting. I guess he was going because Putin summoned him.

But the intimate dinner conversation, of which there is no official United States government record, because no American official other than the president was involved, is the latest to raise eyebrows. Foreign leaders who witnessed it later commented privately on the oddity of an American president flaunting such a close rapport with his Russian counterpart.

“Pretty much everyone at the dinner thought this was really weird, that here is the president of the United States, who clearly wants to display that he has a better relationship personally with President Putin than any of us, or simply doesn’t care,” said Ian Bremmer, president of the Eurasia Group, a New York-based research and consulting firm, who said he heard directly from attendees. “They were flummoxed, they were confused and they were startled.”

I've had numerous formal meetings with groups followed by informal more intimate meetings where the real nuts and bolts get worked out. I'm not saying that's how international diplomacy should be carried out but it also doesn't seem all that unrealistic.

No its not. Not with all the leaks. MSM and the left are just pissy about the meeting being done in secret so there won't be the leaks that the msm can attack Trump with.

I said on the Russia thread that because of the leaks Trump needed to have more unrecorded meetings conducted in secret with a smaller # of people present..
