I get ya - I guess I'm saying if I can find a viable candidate with a shot that aligns with my views on 70% of the issues vs. an independent with little chance that completely lines up with my views my vote might be wasted except I win personally on principle alone.Appaholic wrote:Respectfully, I disagree....a vote for either of the two major candidates is a waste as they are already going to get more than enough votes from the thronging masses of sheeple who get their political ideas off of a bumper sticker. If you really like a candidate from the two major parties, then by all means, vote for them. But if you're voting for a "winner" you don't agree with, then you're merely supporting the current dysfuntional system that has brought us to our current state...ASUG8 wrote:

So who is going to vote third party or indie next year?

Back when the suggestion of voting third party was largely ignored or mocked...

Did someone predict the rise of Donald Trump?TheDancinMonarch wrote:I did that in 2008 and what good did it do? It made me feel good at the time but I'm here to tell you that the joy dissapated quickly.
You would think that in a country of over 300 million people there would be at least a few people who could do better than what we have now in the White House and Congress. But then again why would any sane normal person put up with the process. The media anal exam. Loss of personal life. Negative campaigns. Being personally insulted by your opponents. Having to explain why you got a "C" in Psychology 201 in your sophomore year or why you peed on the Deans lawn in your junior year. Only a person with an ego the size of Jupiter would be willing to try and over the years I think we have had quite enough of that.
I say that if they throw their hat in the ring, they are disqualified.
We all know people who are smart, thoughtful, even-tempered, honest and whatever other qualities you think would be good. But how many of them would submit themselves to the process? And who could blame them?

I will vote anti Republican now. I used to think that Party was the only hope for foiling the inexorable march of the Democrat Party towards dominance. But the Republican Party just showed that it is not the solution. So what we need is the destruction of the Republican Party so that it can be replaced by a better alternative. Not likely it'll happen in my lifetime. But we can hopefully get started.CID1990 wrote:I'm probably not going to vote at all

So, pray tell, how does one "vote anti-Republican"? You might as well go whole-hog with the Democrats, John. That's the only way you can do it.JohnStOnge wrote:I will vote anti Republican now. In my lifetime exactly ONE sitting president hasn't been reelected. It is incredibly difficult to unseat the incumbent. No matter HOW poorly they perform.Ivytalk wrote:It's still early. Right. Bush the Elder. And I find it intriguing that, in one recent national poll for Congressional preferences, the generic Democrats had a lead of precisely ONE percentage point over generic Republicans -- no matter how badly the GOP Congress has messed up.AZGrizFan wrote:In my lifetime exactly ONE sitting president hasn't been reflected. Jeez ... talk about living in wacko-Rightie fantasy alternate reality.
RCP 2018 Generic Congressional Vote
It truly does not matter. Democrats will not win back the House but are likely to cut the Rightie advantage in half.
Even with their advantage, the Righties are failing miserably and will continue to do so. Without Dem support, Lyin' Ryan's Express will crash and burn on raising the debt ceiling and passing the FY-18 budget.
Republicans best hope is that what few reasonable representatives remain are not over-whelmed by a Free-Dumb wave in 2018 ...

Re: So who is going to vote third party or indie next year?
As usual, AzzHole Guy tries to score cheap political points with a houndawg-like retort. Sure, if the election were held today, the GOP would lose seats, and rightfully so. But since there are fewer and fewer competitive districts, it won't be a 2010-level washout. The Donks can only hope for a repeat of 2006.Aho Old Guy wrote:Ivytalk wrote: Right. Bush the Elder.
