Pretty Cool!

Post by andy7171 »

My cousin in law just retired from the Navy, and immediately was nominated by Trump for the assistant secretary of Commerce as the NOAA second in command.

Well, I guess it's cool if you have a family member or someone associated with your family nominated for a position like that. But if it were a member of my family I would hope they would decline based on principle. Based on not wanting to be associated with an atrocity like Trump.

I pretty much look at anybody who accepts a position with the Trump administration as tainted. And it's sad. There are a number of people who I previously viewed favorably who I now would never vote for because they opted to associate themselves with Trump. Nikki Haley is a prominent example. A year and a half ago I looked at her as a rising star in the Republican Party. But now I would never vote for her for any political office because she sold her soul. To me she pretty much shows she lacks integrity by virtue of accepting a position in the atrocity administration.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I guess you'd feel better if these positions are filled with Sarah Palins and Hank Johnsons and Sheila Jackson-Lees?

Agreed. They're really good at weather and fisheries type stuff. Their forecasts on hurricanes and tornados truly save lives.

Don't trust 'em when it comes to climatology though. Bunch of greedy, non-observational hacks.

Seriously, if I'm Neil Armstrong and I'm getting ready to push a button, I'm thankful that the guys who wired the switch, fueled the tanks, etc were OCD. I'm hoping for even half that level of OCD from the guys maintaining the airliners I fly on.

It is of course an honor to be considered but a lot of people have been diminished by their association with the Grifter Administration so I'd hesitate to call it a slam dunk career enhancer.

When I was stationed in Fairbanks in 77-78 NOAA was using the old DEW line radar sites to conduct research on the Aurora Borealis by shooting rockets full of elements that would enhance different wavelengths. We maintained their Huey's so when they came in from the bush they would tell us their schedule and we would carry the day room couches up on top of the barracks and watch the show in our arctic gear.
