Some regulars are back in (Dempsey and Altidore the most prominent) but they still aren't using everyone, and even then a guy like Dempsey just came off the bench in the last game. Pulisic isn't here, and any European-based player won't be here. Mexico did the same, and it's typical in the year before a World Cup not to be full strength in this tournament.

They lost 2-0 at HOME in a WC qualifier and play on the road in a couple of hours. They very well could have to play in to the WC vs an Asian team. I was wrong about US being no better than they were years ago... they're worse.

This will always be your 6.93 moment. We are certainly better than we were in 1994, which is what you first said. And yes, we'll still make the World Cup - the CONCACAF qualifying is extremely forgiving. We're basically doing what Mexico did to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. I'm sure they were worse than our 1994 team then as well.

Nah, they'll make it. The tie last night puts them in a tie in 4th with Honduras, who if they end up tied with they'll win the tiebreak on goal differential. Only one point behind Panama, and they play Panama at home in October before finishing at Trinidad and Tobago, who has lost 7 of 8 games so far. Honduras is at Costa Rico and home against Mexico, so they're not getting more than another point. Panama has the game in the US and home against Costa Rica. US is still going to finish 3rd in this thing and not even have to worry about playing the team from Asia for the last spot despite playing like crap over the last several games. That's how backwards the CONCACAF Hexagonal is - it's basically set up to make sure teams like the US this year and Mexico in 2013 still make the World Cup even if they muck it up for much of the qualification.
