That kind of sums it up. I do think it gets a bad rap, but it's a hell of a lot better than some of the other newer ones.bandl wrote:Nat's Park is fine. Nothing special about it. Has some good food/beer options and nice sight lines for the most part. Doesn't have the good feel of the retro parks though like Camden Yards, San Fran or Pittsburgh (my favorite stadium).

Coors Field
Chase Field
Great American\
BTW, if you haven't been to Nats Stadium in a year or two, the immediate surrounding area is tremendously different (for the better).

What makes it "a hell of a lot better"? I haven't been to any of these. But watching on TV, I can't see much of a difference.89Hen wrote:Marlins ParkCAA Flagship wrote: Which ones?

Seriously. What do you consider when evaluating stadiums? I would think architectural uniqueness would be one thing. I would factor in the surrounding area if I was basing it on actually attending a game there vs. watching on TV. Not arguing whether you are wrong or right since I haven't been to them.89Hen wrote:Because I said so.CAA Flagship wrote: What makes it "a hell of a lot better"? I haven't been to any of these. No, but it's in the bottom 5-10 of just about every ranking I've ever seen of ballparks.dbackjon wrote:Have you been to Chase?89Hen wrote: Marlins Park

That's what you do when you haven't been there. You're easily one of the biggest homers on the board, so I'd rather take the word of somebody without a vested interest.dbackjon wrote:Gotcha. I’ve been to the Metrodome and US Cellular Field.
Both sucked. The Metrodome was a fun place to watch a game but the stadium itself sucked.

Re: MLB Playoff Stadiums
Chase Field has a few shortcomings. I won't say it is one of the top fields, but the need for a fully enclosed stadium in Phoenix during the summer rules that out.89Hen wrote:That's what you do when you haven't been there. But the things that matter the most to me, good sightlines, ease of getting to/from, layout, etc are great at Chase. It was built too big - ownership knows that and would like to change that, but that will take $$$. And all of us fans would rather have that money put onto the team on the field.
Those ratings (I looked at 10+ are all over the place. Some have new Yankee Stadium near the bottom, some at the top. Some have Wrigley highly rated because of history.
Not sure why the view outside the park would matter much - it is a "nice to have" but not an important factor, to me.
I have been to the following MLB Stadiums:
Seattle: Kingdome and Safeco
Arizona: Chase
Texas: Globe Life
St. Louis: Old and New Busch
Atlanta: Turner Field
Washington: Nationals Park
Cleveland: Progressive
Cincinnati: Great American

The view of the stadium, or from the stadium? It's not everything, but some of them sure don't suck.dbackjon wrote:Not sure why the view outside the park would matter much - it is a "nice to have" but not an important factor, to me.

The White Sox stadium was the last one built before the Retro Era bagan. They really fucked up when they built that sterile abomination. The only character it has is the scoreboard, which mimics the one at the old Comiskey Stadium.clenz wrote:I’ve been to the Metrodome and US Cellular Field.

And it is a shame that the Nats couldn't work it so you had a view of the Capitol and/or Monument. You could see the Capitol from the upper deck, but I'm not sure you can see it from there anymore.89Hen wrote:The view of the stadium, or from the stadium? It's also a shame that ballparks have to be orientated in a certain direction. Yankee Stadium could have one of the coolest backdrops, but instead has one of the worst in baseball.

The view FROM the stadium to the surroundings. View of the field is what I care about.

It's a bonus. Honestly, when I go to a ballpark, I'm FAR less interested in the game compared to when I watch on TV. It's fun to see some of the things you don't get to see on TV, but that lasts a couple innings for me. I like to see the game, walk the stadium, sample the food and beers, watch the between inning stuff...dbackjon wrote:The view FROM the stadium to the surroundings. AT&T Park is a great stadium for walking around checking stuff out. It's a lot like a spring training venue. Unless you are in the upper decks, it's close to the action. I like the food at Orlando's (Cepeda) Caribbean BBQ, behind the center field stands..89Hen wrote:It's a bonus. Nice walkway to get there too.
