my point is, the guy has been in office 5 months and after waiting years to retake the WH and Congress, you're asking the party to do everything "now" regardless of political consequences... it's a narrow view that has no regard for political reality...
What gains have we made this year? At the federal level - NONE.

Jon, I agree with your sentiment, period. You have every right to disagree with the way President Obama is handling this, especially after what he promised during his campaign. Maybe this is what it takes to get a strong third party started, or maybe this will light a fire under Obama's ass, and he will do something.

How does alienatiing the Obama administration help you achieve your long term goals?
Flip your last statement around - how does alienating one of the most reliable constituancies the Democrats have had achieve any long-term Democratic goals?
Once we get some shit figured out, I'm most confident that Obama is going to come through for you.
Political reality is what it is and it's fucked. To me Obama is first person in my lifetime that has an opportunity to change it, but it's going to take time and sacrifice. You need to sacrifice and be patient.
You fuckers don't own the president.
Jon, you know when motherfuckers across the board are agreeing with ME, it means you are seriously fucked. Sit back, smoke a 6-paper joint and pop season 3 of Magnum PI in the DVD and relax.

Hey Jon - I'm a Republican, and I respect your rights as a gay man. Any rights that I have you should have too. Not all of us are hate-spewing dittoheads; for most of us it's the economy - we believe in rebuilding America without spending trillions of dollars we don't have (basically, rebuild America first - jobs and infrastructure - in public/private partnerships where growth, not taxes, is emphasized). Unfortunately you're seeing first hand exactly what Democratic "operatives" (to use TTBF's word) have done for like forever - taking your votes for granted without doing anything of substance to help you. Democratic majorities across the board should make this a no-brainer, and yet all you get are a bunch of excuses.dbackjon wrote:Don't be so sure of that. ask the 45 million uninsured about how long health care reform is taken
ask the parents and spouses of servicemen/women who are waiting for us to finally leave iraq
ask the millions of unemployed americans looking for work
ask the working men and women waiting on EFCA so they can organize
a lot is broken, and a lot needs fixing... and fixing such a big mess is going to take time.
i'm not saying it shouldn't happen, I'm saying people need to be realistic about how long some changes will take. expecting all of that to be fixed in 6 months isn't realistic. nor is it fair. nor is it an acknowledgment of the facts - like working with the DoD on DADT rather than to engage in "shock therapy"
i don't think that it's unreasonable for that to take time...

Re: Obama-Apologist Bingo
This is easy to figure out. If after Obama's first term your group has the same rights it had before his term then you know that the party is full of shit as I already am quite sure that they are. If they say they are planning on doing something about it in the second term and you fall for it then it's your fault. If they thought it was important then something would be done while they definitely have the opportunity which may be gone as a second term isn't guaranteed. It will again be promised to you in 2011 though.dbackjon wrote:So you are saying shut up, get to the back of the bus, be grateful for any crumbs thrown our way, and above all else, be quiet and be a good house faggot?TwinTownBisonFan wrote:

no... i'm saying stop acting like your agenda is the most pressing fucking issue for our ENTIRE country at the moment... get the fuck up over yourself and realize that, as much as I personally support your rights and equality, about half of this country doesn't, and that a fair number of them don't even acknowledge your right to exist. realize that clearing that political hurdle isn't going to happen overnight, but mostly... take a chill pill the size Maricopa County and stop deep-ending because your particular agenda item isn't first on the priority list for a country beset by recession, war, and 45 million without health care.dbackjon wrote:So you are saying shut up, get to the back of the bus, be grateful for any crumbs thrown our way, and above all else, be quiet and be a good house faggot?TwinTownBisonFan wrote:

I get the whole attempt to make your case analogous to the civil rights movement of the 60's... and I see some parallels... however... you aren't being assaulted by fire hoses or police dogs... so your over-wrought hyperbole really misses the mark. Just a reminder... JFK was sworn in January of 1961, most civil rights legislation took until 1964 to pass...

I still can't believe the minimalizing of this issue, just because Obama has not acted on it yet.
And then attacking Jon for his strong views on the issue
The rights of a few hundred detainees in Gitmo seems more important to the Obama administration, than the rights of several million Americans.
