This is what gets me. In Arizona, if the Governor is out of state, or not reachable, he HAS to turn temporary control over to the next-in-line (Secretary of State in Arizona).

When Bruce Babbitt (former Governor) would take his yearly rafting trip down the Colorado in the Grand Canyon, he had to do so, since he was out of touch with the capitol.

The governor in SC has so little power we could do without one for years, just look at the last 8

It does amaze me the number of people here who in the past have said of politicians who have affairs that it is between that politician and his wife. Now let's see a guy who breaks the most important vow he will ever make with another person compare to a guy who re-charges some where for a few days.


Personally, I think once a person enters political office it all matters. Some things more than others. I will say that this is not the action of a guy who is considering higher political office. Which may be a good thing. I like Sanford. One of the reasons is because he may be the only politician I have ever seen that sticks to his principles 100%. You may not agree with his views but he has rarely if ever waivered from his core beliefs. On the other hand, I couldn't support for him for POTUS.

The deal is that nobody knew where he was. I don't care of you go to relax, but you're in charge. You need to let us know. He doesn't have to let us know that's hiking on the Appalachian Trail, a simple, " The Governor has gone to Atlanta for a few days to relax" is more than sufficient.

He is odd, stubborn, difficult to deal with, very fiscally conservative, but he really has been a person of principle. Does he have an ego, Yes. I can't imagine any politician that doesn't. I don't think Bush really had principles on fiscal issues. You don't cut taxes and then pass a huge medicare bill and have anything but contradictory views on governments role. Bush certainly was prinicipled in foreigh policy and stuck to his guns while popularity was shrinking. I wish he would have been a little more pragmatic on that front.

I don't think he promised Charlie anything. I think it was understood as a tradition of old SC politics that he would give Condon a bone, but Sanford is anything but a good old boy traditionalist. Condon on the other hand is the poster boy for that.

I don't think he promised Charlie anything. I think it was understood as a tradition of old SC politics that he would give Condon a bone, but Sanford is anything but a good old boy traditionalist. Condon on the other hand is the poster boy for that.

I think his plan to use the money to pay down debt is smart, but if you won't be allowed to use it that way and you will have to pay it back, why would you deny it?
