Yeah, I was listening to Merrill and Mike, who were 7 seconds ahead of Fox. (No way in hell I’d suffer through Joe Buck) Merrill is getting a little older and slower and the press box in LA is a loooong way from the field, so there were some dramatic delays between crowd reaction and confirmation yesterday.GannonFan wrote:The hard thing about Eagles fans in force at places on the road - makes it very difficult on the radio broadcast to judge what just happened based on crowd noise.93henfan wrote:

Re: 2017 NFL Season Thread
At least on the bright side (and with losing Wentz there is no bright side - this isn't like losing Teddy Bridgewater or Sam Bradford, unlike those guys Wentz is a top 5 NFL QB caliber guy), Nick Foles has a lot of NFL starting experience and even QB'd a playoff team. He did lead the drive against the Saints to take the lead late in the 4th quarter of a Chip Kelly playoff game (Brees topped it with his own drive that won the game), so he actually has playoff experience. The Eagles aren't the Packers, they aren't all about the QB. Time for the other parts to step up more - the defense needs to re-emerge, the running game needs to move the chains, and the special teams, other than Elliot and Dhani Jones, need to start being a positive again.93henfan wrote:Foles came from behind to win with some pinpoint passing to Aghalor on the last drive. Sure, losing Wentz is a big loss, but there are worse backups to be had than Foles.clenz wrote: Down goes Wentz.
Welcome to the world of playing with a back up QB. Actually Minnesota is on its 4th QB in 2 years but semantics.

I also reflect on the fact that Jim Plunkett, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, and Trent Dilfer have won Super Bowls (and if you listen to Chizwold, even Joe Flacco).
It was thoroughly enjoyable watching the Vikings lose though. Eagles clinch a first round bye with a win over the Giants on Sunday. Good luck to the Vikings.
Thanks to the win last night, Eagles own the tiebreaker (record vs common opponents) over everyone basically. So all the Eagles need to do is go 2-1 over the last three (@ NYG, and home against Oak and Dallas) and they clinch the 1 seed and homefield throughout. I like their chances at the Linc against anyone. Super Bowl, without Wentz, is a longshot, but winning the NFC should be achievable.

Yeah, Merrill is getting old - he's the Harry Kalas of the Eagles. Just like it hasn't been the same without Kalas, when Merrill does go it won't be the same either. I like the Sixers guy, he actually makes listening to the NBA on the radio bearable.93henfan wrote:Yeah, I was listening to Merrill and Mike, who were 7 seconds ahead of Fox. Re: 2017 NFL Season Thread
Wentz out for the year TORN ACL no way the Eagles win the NFC Championship.
Re: 2017 NFL Season Thread
Nick Foles’ last season with the Eagles (2013): 27 TDs, 2 INTs, 119.2 passer rating.
He certainly can’t make the adjustments at the line or make the plays with his feet that Wentz can, but anybody who has watched him knows that he has incredible touch on deep balls and usually hits his receivers in stride wherever they are (a minor knock on Wentz this season). I’d say Torry Smith’s stock just went up a little.

Went 12-2 in one of my pools this week (my own actual picks) and I'm tied for the lead. We both have the Pats. Tie breaker is points. I have 47, he has 57.
Go defense, offensive injuries, and shitty weather.

Wow, the Fins picked off Brady twice, and Jay Cutler actually won a key game!

I read about that this morning. A few thoughts:Ivytalk wrote:Wow, the Fins picked off Brady twice, and Jay Cutler actually won a key game!
1) It couldn't have happened to better teams. I'm glad the Dolphins broke the Pats winning streak. You lost to MIAMI!?
2) Brady didn't complete a pass until the 3rd Quarter! Holy Crap - how does that happen!?
3) The Pats went 0-11 on 3rd Down Conversions.
4) That game shows how weak the Pats can be without Gronk - but he returns this week so the match up with the Steelers will be a good game (especially after the performance of Antonio Brown this weekend)

With no Gronk, the Pats don't scare too many people. Then throw in the fact that Miami's defensive line is the type of line that can get pressure on every snap and any QB, Brady included, would be in trouble. Still doesn't excuse the fact that you don't complete a pass in the first half. It's a performance like that that would have me still vote for Wentz for MVP over Brady, even with Wentz not playing the next few games.CAA Flagship wrote:Brady had a losing record in Miami going into the game last night.Ibanez wrote: I read about that this morning. Let me repeat; Brady had a losing record IN Miami going into the game last night. Considering the two teams over the last 15 years or so, that's a surprising stat, no?Ibanez wrote:How so?
