Jon, there's no need to go all "D1B" on me. I comprehend the hypocrisy. But to give Clinton a pass merely because it wasn't a campaign slogan is just plain politics.

Lied about a blowjob. I am sure if a few months ago you put Sanford under oath, he'd have done the same thing.

Clinton was a witch hunt by Newt and company.

So, you're OK with lying under oath if it's for a BJ....pray tell, what's your cut off where it becomes serious...

Never said I was OK - never should have been asked in the first place, but he should have answered. Not worthy of the impeachment circus that damaged our national security.

Oh, and BTW.... Bill Clinton was impeached for lying under OATH. What is it with you? Do you really believe your own semantic gridlock, or are you just filling in for D1B?
Disconnect here. If Sanford can't stay true to the most important VOW a person takes, then what integrity does he have?

No one claimed Clinton had integrity. He didn't run on a family values/integritity platform.
You know? You're right. I was sounding like someone defending Obama's ties to overtly racist ministers or corrupt electioneering organizations. I cannot defend Sanford on his infidelities, because they are what they are. And you are also correct.... Clinton never ran on his integrity, and neither has any other Democrat since Carter.

And for the record, I am extremely disappointed in Sanford and I think he should resign, in spite of the fact that he is one of the last true fiscal conservatives.

I think it's pretty sad that every time a politician f--k's up, his defenders resort to pointing out another politician that f--k'd up. How about if we stay on topic and hold politicians accountable?

What Bill Clinton did has nothing to do with this, it's time to move on from what Clinton did or did not do. We need to hold our politicians to a high standard, not the lowest standard we can find. Just because we can find a politician that f--k'd up more than "our guy", doesn't mean "our guy" is a good politcian.

I don't know if Mark Sanford is a good Governor or not. He may not be the best husband/father, but that is not a prerequisite for holding office.

But we can't expect miracles from there. Remember, they are only flesh and blood like us. What's killing me on other boards is all the self-righteous "followers of God" coming out and condemning him. What happened to "he that is without sin, let him be the first to cast the stones"? Not surprising, it's coming from mostly fundamentalists. Yes I know, big shock.

The gov and his family are in my good thoughts and prayers.

Actually, there is no such thing as a "good" politician, but Sanford came close. Now he is damaged goods. He could be the Messiah of fiscal responsibility, but his infidelities will lead to questions about his ability across the board.

I agree (I do think there are good politicians, but they only get one term  )

When I vote, I ask if the incumbent is doing a good job or not and that is how I make my choice. Extra marital affairs suck, but they aren't indicators of job performance. Neither are "Family Values".

I am tired so I am not going to go into why that could be wrong. But those two indicators can and have on occasion caused problems when it comes to deals the public knows nothing about.

I tend to be cynical and suspect that most politicians have had affairs, we don't find out about many of them. I could be wrong, which is why I used the word humble in my first post.

I do think the "Family Values" platform is a crock of shit. I fail to see how "Family Values" or lack there of affects the big problems facing the country today.

9/11 didn't happen because of "Family Values", neither did the recession or the Iraq war. Again, just my humble :twocents:

He isn't going to fry politically because of the affair.

Now turning down stimulus money and making budget cuts while spending public money to make his trip(s) to Argentina, all while claiming to be a fiscal conservative, that'll kill his career.

I completely agree, Pols. The persons VALUES are EXACTLY what are indicated. And the higher up the chain they are, the more careful they need to be.

Really? How so? Can you give examples? By many accounts Jimmy Carter may have been one of the most principled men ever to hold the office of President. Do you think he was a good Prez?

Values are nice - but they are a luxury item when it comes to choosing an elected official.

Values don't make you SMART. Clinton had ZERO values. But he was smart. BAD combination. Bush had values, but dumb as a post. ANOTHER bad combination. But based on the way this country tears down politicians, it's amazing ANYONE runs for office anymore.

So, if Sanford does resign or is removed from office over this...does that mean Andre Bauer (SC's Lt. Gov.) becomes the Governor?
