The Sunbelt Blows...
In a recent "Facilities Improvement" thread, JMU and Sunbelt where mentioned in the same sentence...JMU will NEVER,NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be in the Sunbelt Conference. The most delusional person on earth could not rationalize how that could benefit JMU. Athletic Conference affiliation invloves more than sports, peer institutions must have good academic reputations as well...The CAA is a solid athletic conference and has good/great academic membership. Not to mention, JMU leans North, not South...
The Sunbelt Conference is appalling...

Interesting take. Right now, if JMU had any FBS asperations, they would be the only league possibly willing to add them. But joining up with a league that stretches from Miami to Dallas doesn't seem to be a good fit, even sports wise.JMUpurplehazed wrote:In a recent "Facilities Improvement" thread, JMU and Sunbelt where mentioned in the same sentence...JMU will NEVER,NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be in the Sunbelt Conference. Or extends west to Denver in Basketball.
Actually, I was wondering why the Sun Belt would want JMU.

WKU reputation's is well-known in the country. You don't win 17 Sun Belt Conference tournament championships in the last 2 years for nothing. I'm sorry WKU is too ghetto for you. Highly insulted is the phrase I would use.JMUpurplehazed wrote:In a recent "Facilities Improvement" thread, JMU and Sunbelt where mentioned in the same sentence...JMU will NEVER,NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be in the Sunbelt Conference. How are you able to get into Hilltopperhaven and I can't? I logged in and can't even post because I have to get an e-mail back from the owner saying that is OK to post. Remeber I applied in May and its almost July and ZERO posts.dbackjon wrote:Funny thing is that I have heard the same argument over at Hilltopperhaven - that WKU is too good for the Sunbeltwkuhillhound wrote:

Re: The Sunbelt Blows...
Not sure why this needed its own thread, but JMU officially has zero FBS aspirations. Our administration has been quite emphatic about it never happening while they are there. These quotes:dbackjon wrote:Interesting take. Right now, if JMU had any FBS asperations, they would be the only league possibly willing to add them. But joining up with a league that stretches from Miami to Dallas doesn't seem to be a good fit, even sports wise.
James Madison's $52 million plan to renovate Bridgeforth Stadium does not mean the school is considering a move to Division I-A football, university officials said Monday.
"Absolutely not," JMU vice president Charlie King said. "We wanted to have, if not the best, one of the best I-AA football facilities in America."
"I think there's a lot of speculation out there and, there has been for some time, that when the stadium was increased in size, we would immediately try to move to I-A football," Bourne said. "We're very comfortable where we are right now. We certainly enjoy competing at this level."
http://www.dailynews-record.com/sports_ ... 406&CHID=3"I think our goal was to show that we were able to optimize are stadium's seating capacity if it was ever needed in the future," Bourne said. "Certainly, this addition will give us the room we need for some time to come. Our goal for our program is to put us at the pinnacle in the championship division of football [I-AA]."
were made in response to the stadium expansion news. Now, I don't see why the plan is for a 40k seater when we will only be IAA but do as I do, not as I say, I guess. My greatest fear is that the long predicted Big East shakeup will occur and with our administration dragging its feat any chance we may have had will be gone. This of course ignores that Big East will in all likelihood pick teams from CUSA, established IA programs with winning traditions - why go to the "minor" leagues?
I would be okay with moving up in one of two circumstances: 1) jumping to a BCS (BE, ACC) conference, which won't happen, or 2) jumping with other FCS powers providing a playoff is in place and every conference that meets requirements gets an autobid, which is also unlikely. Until such a time, I am okay with being IAA.

Re: The Sunbelt Blows...
Hopefully by that time the BcS will be long gone and in a playoff system, that way your Dukes could move up into the Big East or a smaller conference and do pretty well since the Big East is thinking about adding Army and Navy, orND
Re: The Sunbelt Blows...
Part of me thinks that while the BCS may be abolished, those schools will find some way to keep their exclusive circle jerk going and keep out the mid-majors from a playoff setup.SUUTbird wrote:Hopefully by that time the BcS will be long gone and in a playoff system, that way your Dukes could move up into the Big East or a smaller conference and do pretty well since the Big East is thinking about adding Army and Navy, orND
Besides, I see no reason why the Big East would take us, UMass, Delaware, App State or anyone when there are qualified schools already at the FBS level. I'm not opposed to moving to FBS, just so long as it is in a situation where we have a chance to compete for a national title. Until that time comes, I am ok with staying at the FCS level.

Off topic: The basketball school that people love to imitate but can never duplicate (familiar Gonzaga). They still have to make 12 more NCAA Tournaments before they can match WKU's resume. Gonzaga has never been to a Final Four, WKU has! The original mid-major, that's who? Gonzaga is WKU's bitch!

Re: The Sunbelt Blows...
I flew off the handle slightly. It probably wasn't meant for WKU, but since the Hilltoppers are in the Sun Belt, I will defend it for now. Sometimes I wish that WKU was in the MAC, it would be tough geographically for some teams (Buffalo, especially), but we would have just as much success in their sponsored sports. It would probably take longer for our football team to be successful in the MAC than the Sun Belt.JMUpurplehazed wrote:Hillhound
