Imagine having a boss that forbids you to conduct protests while on the job that might hurt your employer financially. Glad I have my white privilege and can get away with that. What a racist, plantation-like league. :ohno:

I doubt that what happened with the new policy is the end of it. Good chance the situation will escalate. Players can choose to stay in the locker room while the anthem is played, for instance, and now media are going to be watching for who stays in the locker room. Now the statement will be made by staying in the locker room instead of kneeling on the sideline and I fully expect a number of high profile players to do that so that it gets attention.

Also some of them are going to kneel anyway. Good chance it's going to get uglier.

I posted this in the NFL thread but it's more appropriate here ...

"Can I ask why kneeling is considered disrespectful? People kneel to show respect for their god(s), monarch, etc. Turning your back to the flag is disrespectful. I don't think kneeling while facing the flag is. This has been blown out of proportion by yahoos itching for something to bitch & fight about."

Well, it's a protest so obviously these players don't see it as a sign of reverence and the fans don't either.

Honestly, it's not a huge deal to me. But I can't muster a single shred of sympathy when James Damore gets fired from Google for daring to question the cult of diversity and when an Apple Diversity Chief gets fired for stating an obvious truth that having a bunch of people of the same color doesn't make them diverse.

Are you saying that you can't protest in a respectful manner? They are trying to bring attention to something they think is important. Turning your back, sitting, (buying concessions,) etc. are disrespectful. I don't think kneeling and facing the flag is.

I agree on Google & Apple. The real truth is that there are a bunch of snowflakes on both sides who are too fragile for honesty & transparency. It might upset their carefully constructed view of reality.

On it's own it's not. When done as a protest, it is. Obviously a lot of people agree on that.

You know what I think upsets people more than not standing for the national anthem? You've got a really contentious issue that's intruding on what is basically leisure and entertainment. If these players were protesting this on their own time, it wouldn't hurt the NFL's ratings the same way. Heck Hollywood's activism really only starts to grind most people's gears when it gets into awards shows or becomes too blatant in movies.

And on top of that, people resent that these guys are going to get fined a sliver of their annual salary for doing something on the job that hurts their employer financially while most of us would get fired for that.

Much like the NFL, I don't watch awards shows either. Both are boring as fuck.

So it's bad when Google or Apple give in to hammer & sickle progressive snowflakes but it's ok when the NFL gives in to red velvet neck cupcakes?

They're private organizations and can do what they want but I find the faux outrage, fragility and hypocrisy amusing.
