But what about the orange crop report? How is this going to impact the market for frozen concentrated orange juice?

I was concerned, reading the Dem posts here a few weeks back, that we’d be in a depression by now.

Obama didn't meet with the fucking Ayatollah.

The Kims haven't been dreaming of negotiating with Murican advisors. They've been dreaming of a photo op with a Murican president. It elevates their status.
How does this elevate his status? His family has been running NK for 60+ years. Isn't he already considered the NK leader throughout the world? It's not like he's some general that just launched a successful coup and wants to be seen as legitimate. :suspicious:

That relates to my recollection. I was wondering. My recollection was that kind of the standard thing historically is that we would not meet directly with the North Koreans. I have this recollection of them wanting to meet with us directly but us saying that if we met with them directly that would give them a credibility we didn't want to give them.

Then now all of a sudden us agreeing to meet with them directly is a wonderful thing.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing but it does seem to be a change in attitude.
Why did you change the thread title in your post, John? Is MAGA your Kryptonite?
Nah that was unintentional. Don't know how it happened.

Here's a Reuters article on that narrative being out there historically:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nort ... SKCN1GL0W1
Analysts say North Korea has been seeking a summit with American leaders as a way to secure international legitimacy, something that has prevented past U.S. administration’s from taking Pyongyang up on its invitations.

“A summit is a reward to North Korea,” said Robert Kelly, a professor at South Korea’s Pusan National University. “It extends the prestige of meeting the head of state of the world’s strongest power and leading democracy. That is why we should not do it unless we get a meaningful concession from North Korea. That is why other presidents have not done it.”
As I wrote earlier that's the story i'd been hearing over the years so I wondered why this was seen as a big breakthrough.

I'm just asking why it's considered to be a big accomplishment to get a meeting with them when it's pretty clear that they've been wanting meetings like that for decades. It's not like we'd have ever had to chase them down to get a meeting.

It elevates NK diplomatically to meet with the US. It doesn't elevate Kim personally because nobody is elevated by contact with Trump. In fact most people who hang around the guy become sadly diminished both personally and professionally, judging by the White House's 46% turnover rate, which is higher than McDonalds.

So if we're lucky Kim will get some Trump on his shoes and be unable to scrape it off. :thumb:

The U.S. recorded a $215 billion budget deficit in February -- its biggest in six years -- as revenue declined.

Fiscal income dropped to $156 billion, down 9 percent from a year earlier, while spending rose 2 percent to $371 billion, the Treasury Department said on Monday. The deficit for the fiscal year that began in October widened to $391 billion, compared with a $351 billion shortfall the same period a year earlier, according to the Treasury report.

The data underscore concerns by some economists that Republican tax cuts enacted this year could increase the U.S. government debt load, which has surpassed $20 trillion. The tax changes are expected to reduce federal revenue by more than $1 trillion over the next decade, while a $300 billion spending deal reached by Congress in February could push the deficit higher.

We'll see what happens but I do believe the Republicans were either lying to people or being delusional when they said it's likely that the tax cuts they did would increase revenues or even be revenue neutral. It's not something I can independently check myself. But I could see that the Republicans could not cite any real structured study at all to support their claims. Or if they could, to my knowledge, they didn't. It was just kind of glittering generality stuff.

What will be will be. And I'll admit that we need to give it time to see.

BTW I do think taxes needed to be cut. But I also think government does way too much and should not be spending what it does. My paradigm is one in which you cut taxes AND cut spending.
