Re: The Official "Making America Great Again" Thread
At this point everyone pretty much has the same reaction to anything anyone close to Trump says about him

Rather than pining for a country where people like that don't exist, I'd rather work out how to not have a system drive people to think Trump is the only option they have, or the best one at least.

We know they would do something like go to a Trump rally and have those T shirts made. People like that are not a net positive for the country. They area net negative.Gil Dobie wrote:We don't know anything about these people except for the picture on the internet. I don't think we had a situation where people were driven to think Trump was the only option they have. I think we have a bunch of pricks like the two pricks in that picture. Now, in truth we can't get rid of them. But if we could we'd be better off.GannonFan wrote:That's your irredeemable basket of deplorables then, right JSO??JohnStOnge wrote:

Re: The Official
You're probably wrong. I have very strong beliefs about how one should handle oneself. And those shirts would not comport with those beliefs regardless of what candidate name was on them. Now, it's no surprise that Trump supporters would be the type of people that would run around in a shirt like that. But someone who would run around in a shirt like that and think it's cool is not a respectable person.CID1990 wrote:I think we all know which part of those shirts you find offensive, JSOJohnStOnge wrote:

I've written before that the fact that we have a sufficient proportion of the population that would vote for somebody like Trump to end up having him elected is more of a problem for this country than Trump himself is. Those two are a couple of examples from the problematic population proportion.

The problem is that you are using it as an argument that things would be better off if people had voted for Clinton instead - that somehow people on the left don't wear vagina hats, Che Guevara shirts, and vulgar language... when in reality vulgarity is a niche on the right and a lifestyle on the left.
We get that you're disillusioned about the GOP - that they shouldn't welcome the support of people like this, and I agree. But they didn't spring up overnight with the advent of Trump. And nobody in this political duopoly has the moral high ground when it comes to a lack of civility and decorum.
So this is a bad field on which to fight the "other side would have been better" battle.

But I'm sure he did it for Jesus.
So Pence refused to pardon someone exonerated by DNA and recanted testimonies, while praising a man who refused to investigate the rapes of children, entrapped someone, targeted political adversaries, cost the local government in settlements due to illegal activities, held prisoners (some not convicted) in terrible conditions, and was found guilty of contempt of court.Vice President Mike Pence praised Joe Arpaio, a controversial former Arizona sheriff who President Donald Trump pardoned last year for a criminal contempt conviction, as a strong supporter of the "rule of law" [] during a Tuesday event in Tempe.
The compliment quickly drew criticism even from some conservatives.
Now, Pence's comments also are drawing fire from another source: A man wrongfully convicted in Indiana who Pence wouldn't pardon as governor.
Keith Cooper, who was convicted nearly 20 years ago of an armed robbery he did not commit, said Wednesday that Pence's support for Arpaio shows a double standard.
"He's a racist," Cooper said...
...DNA evidence later pointed to another suspect, eyewitnesses recanted their testimony and the deputy prosecutor who handled the case wrote a letter to Pence arguing that "justice demands that Mr. Cooper be pardoned."
Pence, however, declined to grant Cooper a pardon during his four years as Indiana's governor, despite a recommendation from the state's parole board. Pence's successor, Republican Eric Holcomb, pardoned Cooper last year, just one month after taking office.
But I'm sure he did it for Jesus.

Maybe appoint more people who are actually deserving of a clearance. Should speed things up again for everybody.
Speaking of which, Kushner is still leaving out shit from his clearance form. He's had to update it to correct information at least 40 fucking times over more than a year.

Re: The Official "Making America Great Again" Thread
Holding up appointees has little these days to do with if someone is deserving or not - both parties have been very good about continuing down the rabbit hole of sticking it to the other party when it comes to these things - GOP did it to the Dems, Dems did it to the GOP but better, GOP then went further again when it was their turn to do it to the Dems, and now the Dems have stepped it up even more. This is how we end up with nuclear options in the Senate and going with majority rule. I think we're going to keep going in that direction and the "advise and consent" will be just that.Skjellyfetti wrote:Maybe appoint more people who are actually deserving of a clearance. I'm pretty sure there's people on this board that could have written funnier lines than that, especially for the most mockable POTUS ever.
Jimmy Dore just played some clips (I hadn’t listened to it before) and yes, a number of her jokes were funny, in a Friars Club Roast kind of way. Isn’t that what the WHitehouse Correspondents Dinner is supposed to be?
I’m guessing a bunch of snowflake conservative journalists considered it beyond the pale and thus the entire tribe was up in arms without really watching it.
