Pretty dumb map.

This is the most obvious example that I guess wasn't significant enough to make the map of "crusader battles."

Capture of Constantinople by the 4th Crusade in 1204

Looks like roughly a dozen "crusader battles" - I'm assuming what qualifies as a "crusader battle" is a much higher bar.

The map lacks a lot of information

which makes it only slightly less substantive than your reply to it

The Moops did some fine work but they were amateurs compared to the Vikings who paled in comparison to the Mongols.

Is the a capture of a city considered a battle?

Battle: a sustained fight between large, organized armed forces.

Id say a battle most likely occurred if a city was captured.

That's were you get into splitters and lumpers. Some say it's a Sack, not a Battle, others may consider it a Battle. It's all semantics, depending on what side of the discussion you are on. The people that made the map, apparently don't consider it a battle. Maybe there wasn't a large army putting up resistance, just citizens of the city.

About 35k combatants in the Siege of Constantinople.

A siege is a military tactic. A siege isn't just surrounding a place, halting imports/exports. Often times it's shelling (archery fire), trebuchets, etc... repeated assaults to annihilate a redoubt or fortification.

Yorktown, Boston, Charleston, Berlin, Stalingrad, Leningrad - all sieges that were assaults against the city.

But, I think you aren't realizing the order here.

A small series of skirmishes, military incursions or engagements (like a siege) make up a battle. A series of battles makes a war.

There are types of battles. A battle of encounter (think Gettysburg). A battle of attrition (Verdun in WW1). A battle of envelopment (Stalingrad)

Seige of Constantinople was in 1203, the picture is from the Sack of Constantinople in 1204.

One definition I found was.
Sack: the destruction and looting of a city, usually after an assault.

Waiting for one of our Military aficionados to chyme in.

I can see your point. I'm no "aficionado" but from studying American Military History since 2002, i'm not some Monday morning quarterback.

It was a liberation, given that the Ottomans invaded and took it from the eastern Holy Roman Empire about 50 years prior.
