All the Iranians I know, and I know many, love Iran. They love the people, they love the culture, they love the region, and they know there's a bright future.

Of course they don't love the politics, but none I've spoken to believe America should abandon Iran. Zero.

If you're in-tune with what's going in Iran, you know change is actually happening. But we're such an impatient nation; apparently large political changes must be done immediately and at America's whim.

Bottom line is Iran (and backward ass Islam as a whole) will always be jealous of Western superiority.

So they can kiss our asses. We don’t have to break bread or make concessions with them.

Sometimes the truth hurts, but it’s best to just accept it so you don’t get the vapors.

They were burning US flags in the street of Iran in the 70's and now they're burning them in their legislature. How impatient of us.

BTW, they loved it so much they left instead of trying to change it there.

That statement is grounded in delusion.

There's no denying there are fucked up people out to harm Americans, but society as a whole isn't jealous; people want what America has to offer, but not at the expense of blood, constant war, and degradation of their values. There are other better ways to deal with our enemies abroad.

But I get it...your generation loves war and conflict. It's easy to notice.

Persecution, or they're born here. Not every nation will be the 1770s American colonies.

What have we abandoned here? Iran was trying to get nuclear weapons and with the deal or without the deal they eventually will be successful in obtaining nuclear weapons. Like others in this thread have detailed the deal that Trump backed away from was never going to stop them from obtaining nuclear weapons - it was a half-hearted attempted to seem like it was while also trying to capitalize on economic opportunities. It was far from the best moment of the Obama tenure.

There's no easy way to fix the Middle East when the biggest reason why there is discord in the Middle East is the presence of Israel. We can play nice with Iran all we want but it doesn't change the fact that many in the Middle East want to see Israel destroyed (and they'll help proxies do it) and Israel doesn't want to be destroyed. That's a dilemma that has caused issues for more than a century now and predates there even being an Israel.

Huh? You do realize that the vast majority of folks in the 1770's American colonies were here too either because of persecution or because they were born here, correct?

As in changing the system from within with an armed revolution.

Nobody wants death and destruction, but sometimes it’s necessary. If death and destruction somewhere else keeps it away from here, I’m all for it.

I get that opinion and don't necessarily disagree. I completely disagree Iran was going to rain down death and destruction on Americans. I mean we sit here and praise Trump for bringing North Korea to the table while they already have nukes. Yet the previous administration creates a preventative measure at best, and delaying action at worst, before a nation acquires nukes and it's no good? Why?

I really don’t enjoy continually labeling you as naive, but c’mon man. These are the Iranians. They weren’t ever going to hold their end of the bargain.

Tell me you knew that?!?

Every nation included in the pact, the IAEA, and our intelligence services (including senior Trump officials) say Iran's holding up their end of the bargain. It's arguably one of the most successful arms-control deals in modern history. So no, I didn't know that.

But I'm glad all the diplomats, inspectors, and diplomats we have here do.

So you don’t think Israeli intelligence, who has thousands of agents embedded all over that country, might know a little more about what Iran is doing than all the blowhards in Europe?

Just thinking out loud here.

Stop it, it was never an arms-control deal. There were literally numerous places, under the agreement, where we were not allowed to go, and even the places we could go there were such provisions in place in terms of advance notice that it was ineffectual. It was a window-dressing deal, it sounded good, it looked good, when we ticked off the boxes of whether the deal was being followed we could tick off the boxes, but it didn't really do anything of merit. Iran is going to have nuclear weapons, deal or no deal. Nothing has changed in that regard.

Naive would include US government concerns over existential threats.
