If you don't see the connotation between calling a black person an ape and the historical racist imagery involved, I don't know what to tell you. It's imagery specifically made to dehumanize an entire race of people over multiple generations and it's still used today. Roseanne's comment is particularly bad because it directly attributes Valerie Jarrett's existence to an an Ape (and Muslim Brotherhood).

I'd argue that it's not vulgarity - calling a woman what she called her is pretty much as demeaning to women as a gender (or sex? Can't keep all that straight anymore) as racism is to minorities. And in this, Trump continues to win. It's amazing how the left and the #resistance continue to play the game on Trump's home court and by Trump's rules. He wants to talk about Roseanne and he wants to be in the news pardoning his celebrity friends because, just like in the campaign, it ends up sucking all the air out of the room and it keeps all the talk and attention on him.
