However, we're asking a lot of the typical immigrant who more than likely doesn't speak any English.

Are we to expect Juan who only speaks Spanish to study on US Immigration laws before deciding to risk life and limb to make it here? Seems pie in the sky. I'm sure there are a litany of loopholes that can be closed.

At the very least, I expect these people to know that the right thing to do is going to a formal border crossing. Swimming across the Rio Grande, packing yourself into a quad-con, etc.. are not acceptable and anyone caught that way should be immediately deported.

I have no problem with immigration - just do it legally.
Word spreads fast in any language. Treat people firmly and consistently and they will respond accordingly. I am ALL IN FAVOR of keeping these family units together, all the way back across the fence to Mexico. Keep them right together throughout their deportation. It’s cruel to separate them before that, I agree. And give them a pamphlet in their native language explaining the legal immigration process for the US. Get in line with everyone else.

Curious about your take on dual process now.

They're shifting it to criminal detention from administrative detention to justify separating families.

But, if you consider it criminal - you have to give them due process. Right?

Even though that closes the thread, I'll add on - it should be the top priority for every person in Congress today to take the steps necessary to stop separating families now, to take the steps necessary to make it clear that illegal crossings will result in rather immediate return, as a family now, to take the steps necessary to make the asylum process as quick as possible (tops several weeks), and to communicate this throughout the countries were these migrants are coming from, now. We've dithered on immigration for well past 20 years now because it's a game of political football that can benefit either side of the political spectrum. Fix the system now and put an end to this despicableness that is using children as political leverage.

Back to the bullshit stream:

Was watching Meet the Press Daily and Todd did a fact check on Trump's speech to the NFIB Small Business Association today. One statement assessed was Trump saying 3.4 million jobs have been created during the 18 months since he got elected. Todd said that is true but threw up a graphic citing Bureau of Labor statistics showing that 3.9 million jobs were created during the 18 months BEFORE he got elected. So, again, we have Trump throwing out this bullshit about how things changed dramatically for the better in association with him getting elected when they didn't.

Another one was Trump saying crime in Germany has gone up by 10% since they started accepting more immigrants when the truth is that it's gone down. He speculated that maybe Trump was talking about a recent report about one German province but, in any case, it was Trump once again spewing false information for consumption by the frothing at the mouth idiots who buy into him.

How does a statistician such as yourself view a chart like this? I see a crime rate that went up for three consecutive years and was the highest in 10 years before dropping precipitously to it's LOWEST reading in 10 years in just one year. That tells me either a) the german government suddenly became geniuses at getting criminals to stop being criminals, b) something changed in how they gather/report/track various crime statistics, or c) the data is fucked.

My money is NOT on the government.

There is no shift. In the past, they were simply paroling the parents while they awaited their due process hearing (and then they disappeared)

Now they are doing away with the parole so they don’t abscond and start creating the dreamers for 15 years from now - the due process hasn’t changed. They just wait for it in detention - and it has always been criminal detention

Ted Boobs’ emergency legislation addresses this- it greatly speeds up the due process afforded these people - allows us to send them back home much more quickly... the very essence of due process

Yep. You're NTA (Notice to Appear) ie "Notice to Disappear". What % actually show up for their hearing? Something like 10%?

I'd have to wait and see what happens to see if there is any kind of trend. But what I can also see is that there is no point at which one could say the crime rate went up by 10%. And that's what Trump said. No matter how you look at that chart Trump was full of shit. He was either making something up or completely misunderstanding something. I don't know which is worse.

This guy is an abomination. It's NOT good that he is President of the United States. At some point I hope you come to realize that.

Read this carefully. Nobody here "likes" Trump. Any support you read is towards his policies.

My wife can't look at a room and picture it painted in another color. I can't tell you how many times she said she didn't like a house because of the color of a room(s). I have accepted that she is wired without the ability to see past things. You need to do the same and stop getting all worked up over stupid lies that mean nothing to anyone. Focus on what is important. And there is nothing more important to a country than safety/security and jobs.

Left has completely lost it on MSNBC and CNN..Cable News: 22 Comparisons of Immigration Policy to the Holocaust, Slavery..

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough “Children are being marched away to showers just like the Nazis said they were taking people to the showers, and then they never came back. You’d think they would use another trick.”

CNN political commentator Dave Jacobson:
“Donald Trump increasingly looks like Hitler in Nazi Germany.”
“Increasingly, Donald Trump is turning this nation into Nazi Germany and turning these [detention centers] into concentration camps.”

Former National Security Director General Michael Hayden, darling of the left, June 16 tweet featuring an image of the Birkenau concentration camp, featured on five different MSNBC shows on Monday:

MSNBC contributor Jonathan Capehart compared what's happening to WWII Japanese internment camps.

Leadership Development Strategist Kwame Jackson on MSNBC Live with Yasmin Vossoughian:
"We’re also talking about a legacy of this in the United States of America, whether it was Native American family separation, whether it was African slave separation, whether it was the Japanese internment camps. So this is a long line that we’re actually hearkening back to, that we really should be ashamed of and look at where we come from historically."

 And neither party has figured that out yet, IMHO. The average American cares about safety for their family, getting paid a fair market wage and being able to make their own decisions that concern their welfare.
