And with that, Argentina wins 2-1 on a late goal, the Croats knock out Iceland, and Messi and Argentina are through to the knockout stage and have a date with France this weekend. Like I said, they're not out yet.
Perfesser, you have an “I told you so” approach that can be very annoying. In the meantime, I’ll root for France, Croatia, and Uruguay.
Well, you were the one who mocked my projection that Portugal could have been facing the winner of France/Argentina - don't want the "I told you so" then don't get all high and mighty trying to mock me before it happens. So there. Heck ya.
No worries, I don't root for Argentina - outside of Messi they are very tough to root for. They will flop, cry, cheat, and play dirty more than any team out there. One of their crowning World Cup moments is when Maradonna reached up and used his fist to knock a goal in and somehow the ref nor his assistants ever saw it. They call it the "Hand of God" goal and still celebrate it today. Darn cheaters.
France is fun to root for, plus they have that blue rooster on their shirts so it's almost like rooting for the Blue Hens!

I didn’t mock anything. I just forgot that the Perons had a draw. Tribe pride set me straight. No homo.

Sweden now up 2-0 on a PK. Korea still 0-0 with the Krauts.
Sweden up 3-0 on an own goal.
Germany would get in with a goal since the Swedes have killed Mexico's goal differential, but South Korea has stymied them. Germany going out at this stage would be the first time since 1938.

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.
It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Nothing shocking about that. No USA in the tournament, no Italy, no Netherlands, now no Germany. But the biggest reason is the time difference - 2014 tournament was in Brazil, which meant you got to have prime time matches in the US in all time zones. Now you have games like today that are at 10AM and 2PM EDT (7AM and 11AM PDT). Even Europe struggles to watch soccer matches when they don't match up well with the time zone. There was a reason why UEFA was originally trying to push Morocco to be the 2026 host - well travel as well - the time zone would put it in prime time in all of Europe. I think I may have watched one match live so far - rest of the matches I follow on the phone or on the BBC (I like their live updates) and then I pick and choose to watch either the games I record or sometimes even just the 30 minute highlight show of all the games.
England-Belgium today was a meaningless 1-0 snooze-fest for the Flemloons. 17 starting substitutes for the 22 position players on both sides. Both teams go through to the knockout round.
