I think the LP will go for Austin Petersen if he eats humble pie and comes back to the fold after Hawley waxes him in the Missouri GOP Senate primary.

I have never railed against 538. I think 538 is very credible. I think sometimes people think they're "off" because they don't how to interpret their output. But I think they are very good.

As I've said I like 538's stuff in general. But I think there are a lot a real reaches in that particular author's analysis. The biggest problem is that the author gets down into the county level. The county level doesn't really matter. In the electoral college, it's the State. And, as the author says early on, when it comes to that most people who thought the economy was the most important factor voted for Clinton. That was true in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin as well as in just about every other State.

It's not that NOBODY voted for Trump because of the economy. It's that, on balance, the "economy" issue worked in Clinton's favor. And there's no real basis for debating that.

So I disagree with that one particular 538 by that one particular 538 author.
