Al Franken's Old Job

Post by Gil Dobie »

Karin Housley (R) vs Tina Smith (DFL), special election to fill the remaining term of Al Franken

Smith (60) is the former Lt Governor who is currently serving in Franken's seat courtesy of Governor Mark Dayton, and defeated former Bush ethics lawyer Richard Painter in the Primary.

Housley (54) is a current member of the Minnesota State Senate and wife of Buffalo Sabres coach and Hockey Hall of Famer Phil Housley.

Housley’s certainly more fuckable, so that’s probably the smart vote.

Smith looks like she may have been a tooth-grinder as a wee lass.

When Karin Housley asked the financial expert who was handling the family investments to explain his strategy to her, he said, "You just wouldn't understand." Grrrr, she thought, and with that an investor was born. But Karin didn't want to head into the stock market's uncharted fiscal wilderness alone. She called ten friends -- ten women ranging in age from twenty-nine to sixty scattered across the United States, all concerned about their financial futures -- and urged them to start an investment club with her.

If I had to bet i'd bet that under the current circumstances the Democrat will win.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

It's Minnesota and the Democrat is almost always favored. News media is saying it stays Democrat.

Yes. I mean, they elected Franken when his background on the first pass was that he was a comedian.

Al Franken's Old Job

I'll say this about Franken - I don't like his politics but in spite of his background he turned out to be a fairly skillful Senator

I was involved in a Congressional delegation that came to Saigon 7-8 years ago which he was a part of. He took all his meetings and engagements seriously, didn't cancel any of them in favor of shopping, and he was as gracious to us as he was the Vietnamese he was meeting with. His wife was a pleasure to be around as well and she wasn't a time suck on anybody - in fact she's sharper than her husband

James Webb and Daniel Inouye also stick out in my mind in this regard, and those two were titans in my mind so I rank Franken with them
