Science Change

This thread is dedicated to the latest findings in research that dispels the previous findings. Some of which has political effects.

No amount of alcohol is safe, health experts warn
Alcohol consumption at all levels can have damaging health implications, according to a report in The Lancet.
The research, which claims to be the most comprehensive of its kind, pours cold water on previous reports that said drinking in moderation could have health benefits.
The report's researchers have called for global medical guidance to be revised.

So much for a glass of wine a day for your health's sake — all alcohol consumption is bad for you, according to a damning report.

The global study, which claims to be the most comprehensive of its kind, pours cold water on previous reports that espouse the protective effects of alcohol under some conditions.

While researchers acknowledged that moderate drinking can protect against heart disease and diabetes, they said that the risks of cancer and other illnesses outweigh those benefits and have called for a change in medical guidance........

The greatest proportion of alcohol-related deaths among young people were tuberculosis, road injuries and self-harm, the report found. Meanwhile, for those aged over-50, the biggest killer was cancer, particularly among women.
Wait a minute, so they counted mortality from suicide and drunk driving in the drinking group?

Science is never perfect unless you are using it to make a political argument to make money, like algore.

It's an observational study. Science gets a bad name because of those. I've posted a discussion of this issue from a statistics text before. It contrasts "observational study" to "scientific study." Observational study isn't even really science because it does not involve controlled experimentation. It has its place and it is often necessary. But it's not even really science as a process.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Aspirin disappoints for avoiding first heart attack, stroke
Taking a low-dose aspirin every day has long been known to cut the chances of another heart attack, stroke or other heart problem in people who already have had one, but the risks don't outweigh the benefits for most other folks, major new research finds.

Although it's been used for more than a century, aspirin's value in many situations is still unclear. The latest studies are some of the largest and longest to test this pennies-a-day blood thinner in people who don't yet have heart disease or a blood vessel-related problem.

One found that aspirin did not help prevent first strokes or heart attacks in people at moderate risk for one because they had several health threats such as smoking, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

Another tested aspirin in people with diabetes, who are more likely to develop or die from heart problems, and found that the modest benefit it gave was offset by a greater risk of serious bleeding.

Aspirin did not help prevent cancer as had been hoped.

And fish oil supplements, also tested in the study of people with diabetes, failed to help.

I'll sum this study up for you...
If you're a smoker and a drinker an aspirin a day isn't going to help you - good luck

However:
If you are healthy an aspirin works as a low dose blood thinner

Furthermore: If you're fat
and you take high blood pressure medication and prescription blood thinners - aspirin is redundant

In summary
Aspirin is not a miracle drug
it's a pain reliever that has a mild blood thinning side effect good for healthy adults over 50

Brown University professor conducts a study suggesting gender dysphoria can spread among kids that have contact with each other.

BTW, there was a longitudinal study done on gender-dysphoric kids that showed almost 90% of them get over it by adulthood.

You know sometimes kids get confused. My 4 yr old will say she's "cold" when really she's "hot". She'll call everyone a boy or he.

They are children..prone to mistakes and not understanding the world around them. It's up to the parents to get their heads out of their assess and say, " No..that's a boy and that's a girl, " not, "Well...that little boy didn't get to choose his sex. You see, his genetics...the codes in his body which makes him a him, said he's a boy but really, in his mind, he's a girl b/c like he's sparkley things and wearing heels."

I don't have any facts to back it up...but i'm willing to bet genetic variants cause people to be gay or transgender...i.e. it's not a choice. It's their DNA.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17

Which is exactly why sex changes for minors should be illegal.

I agree with that. In the messy cases where the kid has both sets, picking a side to go with makes sense, but wait until they're an adult for something other than that.
