IMHO, not a bad selection...from either league...

Re: MLB All Star Teams
Red Sox lead all teams with 6 all stars. Congrats to first time All Star Tim Wakefield. Kinda thought Ellsbury deserved a spot on the final spot ballot, but oh well.

The Phillies have 3 players (4 if Victorino wins the fan vote for the last spot) and no pitchers. Not that any Phillie pitchers deserved to go, but I never like having Phillie pitchers in the game anyway, I'd rather they rest their arms.

I prefer Beckett backout... Wake can go, I wouldnt mind if he got a bit hurt cause I want Clay Buchholz to get a spot in the rotation at some point... Clay could be pitching in like 25 other teams MLB rotations right now... maybe #1 or 2 in half of those.BlueHen86 wrote:The Phillies have 3 players (4 if Victorino wins the fan vote for the last spot) and no pitchers. Re: MLB All Star Teams
do they use a DH in the allstar game?
or do they only do that if it's played in an american league park?
(or not at all, I don't really pay attention)

Re: MLB All Star Teams
I'd feel the same way if I were you. I don't think Wakefield puts as much stress on his pitching arm as most other pitchers. I'm suprised that more people don't throw the knuckleball. A good knuckleball thrower could have a long career without the risk of injuries that other pitchers have.UNHWildCats wrote:I prefer Beckett backout... Re: MLB All Star Teams
ended up researching it myself. Here is what wiki has to say about it:JayJ79 wrote:do they use a DH in the allstar game?

The designated hitter rule is applied based on the league in which the host team plays. In an American League ballpark, both teams use a designated hitter to hit for the pitcher. In a National League ballpark, lineups schedule the pitcher to hit, though pinch hitters are almost always used. The last instance in which a pitcher took his scheduled at-bat was in 2004, as the American League lineup batted around in the top of the first inning, enabling AL starter Mark Mulder to bat. (He was not eligible to be replaced by a pinch hitter, as the starting pitcher in any game must pitch [barring injury] to at least one batter before being replaced.[11]) The same thing happened in San Diego in 1992 when the American League batted around allowing starting pitcher Kevin Brown of the Texas Rangers to bat in the top of the first inning.
There is some debate as to allowing the designated hitter in every All-Star Game, since many pitchers (even All-Stars) are not adept at hitting.

Phillies now have 5 players on the all star team. Victorino got the fan vote and Werth is replacing Beltran.
