Meanwhile we've got somebody in the White House who would do something like that Trump University scam and people are worried about Elizabeth Warren telling people her great, great, great grandmother was a Native American.

I don't think Warren was trying to define a citizenry. I think she was just trying to show that she was telling the truth when she said her great, great, great grandmother was "Native American."“Tribal governments establish regulations that do not use genetic ancestry tests, but other forms of biological and political relationships to define our citizenries,” TallBear said.
And if the tribal governments don't use genetic ancestry tests they are not using the full range of available information at their disposal. That's not a positive.

Re: Fauxahontas DNA Results
Your link doesn't disprove what I said. I didn't say she applied for those jobs by claiming to be Native American, or received the jobs because she claimed to be Native American. I said that, while on the faculties of Penn and Harvard, she identified herself as a Native American. I worded it very carefully so as to be accurate.JohnStOnge wrote:I think what you're talking about is, unfortunately, more a result of the conservative misinformation effort than it is a result of Warren doing anything improper. I think that the FactCheck.org article at https://www.factcheck.org/2017/12/eliza ... ntroversy/ provides a fair assessment.JoltinJoe wrote:
Let's not forget that Warren claimed, while teaching law at Harvard and Penn, to be a minority based on Native American ancestry. That's how this all started. Her minute Native American ancestry hardly gave her the right to make that claim.
i don't think people will see this as validating her claim.
I am a conservative. Anybody who has known me for years that I have been on message boards knows or should know that. But we are at a time in history right now where the conservative movement has gone off the rails. There is a lot of lying. There is a lot of being in denial.
If you are a conservative you SHOULD be upset by that. You should not accept the "side" you're on discarding principle and being dishonest.
What I am referring to is the fact that Warren had listed herself as a Native American minority in the Association of American Law Schools directory of American law professors. I know that to be true. And Harvard reported her as a minority faculty member during her time there.

The inherent imprecision of the six-page DNA analysis could provide fodder for Warren’s critics. If her great-great-great-grandmother was Native American, that puts her at 1/32nd American Indian. But the report includes the possibility that she’s just 1/512th Native American if the ancestor is 10 generations back.![]()

Freaking main line media is exaggerating yet again. I’m not sure if they’re incompetent or if they think this exaggeration will help little Pocahontas.
Warren has less Indian blood than Hitler had Jewish heritage.

If you hail from my part of NC or Oklahoma you are almost guaranteed to have a bit of Cherokee in you. Oklahoman Cherokees actually get some kind of stipend (I briefly courted a Cherokee girl from OK years ago)
But literally every white person from my neck of the woods in NC either claims a little blood, or assumes it - the ones who claim it vocally and often are usually seen as a bit nutty or fabulist - which is why I think Warren is funny but harmless, at least in this context - she's either nutty, fabulist, or using this to raise her multicultural/intersectional creds
Which, when you think of it, pretty much describes every politician ever born
I still think there's a lot of funny mileage to be gotten out of this though -
for example, Trump should donate 1000 bucks to charity (1/1000th of what he pledged)
or the suggestion that at 1/1000th, Pocahontas might be her actual ancestor.

there's 10,000 Christians screaming in pure joy like they're at a monster truck rally
My confusion isn't the irrationality of American Christians (I'm used to that)
It's that the core of any religion is morality - The defining of "right and wrong" behavior
Without it religion is quite literally nothing
So to watch American Christians admit morality is meaningless
and power is everything and the end justifies the means...
It's exactly the opposite of what Jesus preached

Well I think we've had this discussion before - if there is any religion that laid the groundwork for supporting a cretin it is Christianity - the Bible is literally full of hookers, pimps, loan sharks, murderers and thieves who ultimately became instruments of Gawd... the flawed warrior for Jeezus is literally Christianity 101
If you actually believe in a fixed set of rules, then yes it is hypocritical as hell
But on the other hand I find it uniquely Christian
Just watch - some Baptist megachurch in Louisiana is going to baptize Trump in a teary ceremony sometime around 2025
