Re: Fauxahontas DNA Results
"A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship. Current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person's ancestors were indigenous to North or South America. Sovereign tribal nations set their own legal requirements for citizenship, and while DNA tests can be used to determine lineage, such as paternity to an individual, it is not evidence for tribal affiliation. Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is prove. Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage."

Elizabeth Warren self identifies as Native American much like Rachel Dolezal self identified as black (and who is currently charged with perjury, felony theft and welfare fraud). It's all good as long as you're a Democrat.93henfan wrote:"A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship. Re: Fauxahontas DNA Results
Time for one of my favorite jokes:
The young Indian boy had spent most of his life in a quandry.
He felt different yet couldn't figure why he was just so depressed. He went to the Chief for answers.
He asked the chief how his brother Red Deer Running had gotten his name.
The chief answered in his typically poetic way.
"When Red Deer Running was born, at the moment of his birth, the first thing his mother saw was a beautiful deer running off into the forest and so Running Deer was named. It is the custom of our tribe to name the offspring according to the spirits in nature visiting upon the birth."Then, the boy said to the Chief.
And how did my sister "Thundering Bird" get her name? The chief described again, how at the moment of her birth Thundering Bird's mother had heard a roar of thunder and looking up, saw a bird flying in the sky.
The boy asked again, how his cousin "White Crouching Bear" had been given such a name.
And the chief, looking down once more at the boy, explaining the traditions of their tribe.
White Bear's mother had seen a rare white bear crouched over a stream at the moment her baby's birth.
Then he asked the boy"Why do you ask, Two Dogs Fucking?"

Well, not smart people. Watching NBC nightly news last night, you WOULD think this validated her claim. They painted a very inaccurate picture.JoltinJoe wrote:Let's not forget that Warren claimed, while teaching law at Harvard and Penn, to be a minority based on Native American ancestry. That's how this all started. Her minute Native American ancestry hardly gave her the right to make that claim.JohnStOnge wrote:It might provide fodder for the Trump choir. But the bottom line is that her account of her ancestry is consistent with the results. This is going to be seen by most people as validating her claim.
And it makes Trump look like a fool to most people. Not that he didn't look like a fool to most people already. But he made it worse today by asking "who cares?"
Obviously, HE cared. For him to respond with "who cares" really makes him look like a fool because he's obviously been making a big deal of it on a routine basis. Then he lies about saying he'd give money to a charity. What a dope.
i don't think people will see this as validating her claim.

With all due respect, whoever produced that meme is either ignorant or intentionally misleading. They took the lower end of the probability range. The results are clearly consistent with Warren't claims about her great, great, great Grandmother being "Native American."Ibanez wrote:

BTW Google "Meiosis" and read about it. It'll inform you some about why a probability distribution is involved.

You're telling me that if a position at Harvard was open and it had a real Native American vs Warren, it would be justified to pick Warren due to her maybe having a Latin American progenitor somewhere in her familial line because she's just as much a Native American?JohnStOnge wrote:If people don't see the results as validating her claim they are ignorant. Re: Fauxahontas DNA Results
I am correct. The bottom line is that the results are consistent with Warren's claims about her ancestry in terms of her great, great, great grandmother being Native American. That 1 in 1024 thing is a crock. There is a large band of uncertainty because of the nature of genetics and because US Native Americans won't give up their DNA. The important point is the statement about generations and it's consistent with Warren's claim.Ibanez wrote:With all due respect - you’re a **** wet blanket.JohnStOnge wrote:

The claim by Conservatives that the results indicate that Warren is "less Native American" than average is another example of the problem with misinformation coming from the conservative side right now.
And, again, I say that as a conservative. You have to be willing to call your "side" out when it is dishonest and off the rails. And right now the conservative movement is dishonest and off the rails.

This comment is truly funny.JohnStOnge wrote:If people don't see the results as validating her claim they are ignorant. The results are consistent with her account.
She has so little Native American ancestry that her repeated assertions in a professional directories of being a Native American is, most charitably, a grossly fraudulent claim.
It bears repeating that Warren identified herself professionally, as a Native American minority, while a faculty member at the Penn and Harvard law schools. This was a big deal. It distinguished within her profession; it offered her opportunities for research grants beyond what is generally available to law professors.
The "six generations ago" thing was a justification offered years after the fact, when Scott Brown called her out for this "cultural appropriation" during the 2010 Senate campaign.
