I don’t buy that list at all, I used to live in Sac and if they are not 1 they have to be top 5 if that list has any validity at all.

The South is an easy target to poke fun at in the macro but individually southerners are great. Same with Texas - both groups can usually take a joke and most of them can poke fun at the South or Texas better than you can. I like that in a person.Ibanez wrote:Nah, you'd be fine in the South. UN report calls Bay Area homeless crisis human rights violation
I know, it’s a UN report...but even they occasionally get it right...
https://sf.curbed.com/2018/10/26/180285 ... violantionIn January, United Nations Special Rapporteur Leilani Farha visited Oakland and San Francisco as part of a fact-finding mission about housing and expressed shock and horror at the living conditions of homeless residents in one of the wealthiest societies in the world.
Last week at the UN General Assembly in New York, Farha presented her findings in a report titled On Adequate Housing as a Component of the Right to an Adequate Standard of Living, which made special mention of the Bay Area’s “cruel and inhuman” treatment of the homeless.
I know, it’s a UN report...but even they occasionally get it right...

Farha estimates that nearly a quarter of the world’s population live in “informal settlements”—i.e., slums, encampments, or other kinds of makeshift cum permanent or semi-permanent communities that form in almost any major city and are consistently in danger of forced removal by governing agents.

California regulators are looking at taxing texts...
https://apnews.com/1380651d8c02474fb1c7 ... SocialFlowCalifornia regulators are considering a plan to charge a fee for text messaging on mobile phones to help support programs that make phone service accessible to the poor, according to a newspaper report Wednesday.
The proposal is scheduled for a vote next month by the state Public Utilities Commission, the Mercury News reported.
The wireless industry and business groups have been working to defeat the plan.

Surely a trolling post - I'll troll back at you. Once you get older and have multiple responsibilities, including parenting, work, youth sports, your own sports, contractors, etc, including places that don't allow third party apps for texting, you'll find that you will send texts more than the occasional use. Give it a few years and you'll see. Of course, just using Alexa in the basement to drop in on your parents upstairs in the kitchen to find out when dinner is probably works great for you.∞∞∞ wrote:Is texting even a thing anymore besides the occasional use?

Wait a minute, there's something that's made texting pointless? What is it? A telepathy app?

Re: All Things California
I'm not trolling. Texting has been on the decline for years and chat apps are now the most commonly used form of communication.
When the RCS infrastructure is built, every carrier has already announced they're moving towards it. Regular texting just seems completely obsolete to any of the major chat apps available. I think it's dumb to tax it, but even more so now that it's dead tech walking.
Edit: this is from five years ago -

Re: All Things California
I agree with everything else about your post but that. It's simply not true. Even the article you linked said that SMS texting at the time of the article was 17.6 billion per day and was projected to be 21 billion at a later time. That's a 20% increase.∞∞∞ wrote:Texting has been on the decline for years
Texting is growing. Just not as much as chat apps are growing.
As GF said, texting is simple and to the point. There's no "I gotta be doing the latest thing because I'm a millennial who (thinks he) knows everything" aspect to it. And a lot of people who didn't even have smartphones just five years ago, like my parents who got their first ones last month, are just discovering and loving the convenience of texting.
