The low point isn't here yet. 15,000 jobs at GM are gone for Christmas. Why does it seem they always do this kind of **** during the Holidays?
Since when have you been a supporter of Federal government workers?

No shit. Did anyone seriously think a gubmint subsidized automobile manufacturer was going to hold up? They should have let GM die back when it would down and let their assets worth anything be scooped up by the surviving companies.

From Morning Brew:
Use this insightful comparison for the stock market and the economy, c/o financial advisor Josh Brown.
Imagine the economy is a woman walking her dog, and the stock market is her hyperactive schnauzer. Look at just her, and she's walking ahead steadily...nothing too exciting. But look at her dog, and it's everywhere at once—sniffing the grass, lunging in 1,000 directions, etc.

Boil it down: "The economy and the stock market are somewhat connected, but they do not look the same. They do not act the same even if they're walking in the same direction."

Context:
1) The cuts could total about 14,000 jobs. But this was set into motion last month when GM offered buyout packages to about 18,000 salaried workers in North America. That also includes an ~25% cut of it's executives.

2) They are discontinuing 6 vehicles and 2-3 plants in a move to focus on tech and models that actually sell.

3) GM is shifting its focus to electric and autonomous vehicles as well as improve their cash flow. Personally, for a company that was rescued by the taxpayers, it's good to see them look forward and try to be more agile and efficient.

Why?
Because of the UAW of course.

Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, BMW, Nissan, Subaru, Volkswagen, etc. don't seem to have too much of a problem designing, building, selling and even exporting cars from here.

Try and keep up. I was talking about the low point during Obama’s presidency.

Oh for Pete's sake. I hadn't previously hear ANYBODY try to blame Obama for the 2007 market downturn that clearly started well prior to when he took office.

I just picked the start of the Bull Market. It's not cherry picking.

I mean really. The DJIA peaked on July 19, 2007 then began a general decline through March 9, 2009. And you are going to hold Obama "responsible" for what happened between when he took office on January 20, 2009, and March 9, 2009?

Yep. He was elected in November. The markets react, just like they did when Trump was elected in November.

And when the market realized Obama was a phenomenal POTUS, the Dow jumped from 7k to 18k? :D
