Yes, the cowboys having all of 2 playoff wins (and not even in the same year) since 1996 (that's 21 years, or 1 playoff win for every 10.5 years) were flukes as well.

Well it sure looks like the Cowboys are going to win the NFC EastGannonFan wrote:Yes, the cowboys having all of 2 playoff wins (and not even in the same year) since 1996 (that's 21 years, or 1 playoff win for every 10.5 years) were flukes as well.
The Eagles put up a good fight - but it looks like the Cowboys are back
the Amari Cooper trade is looking like a good deal
Zeke is still in his bargain years
Dak is still in his bargain years
and the Cowboys will have $48 million in cap space after winning the division
The Eagles are projected to be -$13 Mil (over cap)
I don't think the Cowboys would trade their position with any of their NFC East competitors right now

Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread
Back to what exactly? Are you saying they are Super Bowl contenders this year? Playoffs is nice, winning something in the playoffs is something the cowboys haven't done a lot of for more than two decades now. Considering they'll be playing in the wild card round this time around, the odds of them even reaching an NFC title game (i.e. win at home against Seattle and then win on the road in either LA or New Orleans), again, a game they haven't played in since 1996, look pretty dim.Chizzang wrote:Well it sure looks like the Cowboys are going to win the NFC EastGannonFan wrote:Yes, the cowboys having all of 2 playoff wins (and not even in the same year) since 1996 (that's 21 years, or 1 playoff win for every 10.5 years) were flukes as well.

As for the contracts, Zeke will be on the last year of his contract in 2019 (club option in 2020 but we've seen how RB's love being underpaid in the last year of the contract)- how much of a bargain will that be and are they willing to not re-sign him early and let him test the market? Dak will always be in his bargain years because he's a bargain QB, but he's in a contract year next year so when do they re-up him? And Amari Cooper is coming up on the end of his contract as well after the 2019 season (same time that Zeke is due) - both those guys will be renegotiating off of rookie contracts and into "franchise savior" contracts. Oh, and a good third of that cap room is due to Lawrence being a free agent next year after making $17M this year - are the Cowboys letting him go free or are they going to resign him? Is he taking a pay cut? Oh, and Beasley is a FA after this year so there's more money to resign. $48M, when you have tons of your own players to resign, especially younger players (at RB, QB, and WR) all coming off of rookie deals, goes away really quickly in the NFL.

Eagles drop $14M from their salary when and if they cut Jason Peters and Nick Foles. I'm not sure Peters will be able to walk next year anyway and Foles was a luxury to have around this year considering Wentz was rehabbing all off-season.Chizzang wrote:Division leaders projected Cap Space 2019

Btw, general rule of thumb in the NFL is that no team can pay everybody. Projected cap space just means you haven't filled your roster out yet (i.e. haven't paid your own pending free agents nor have signed new guys to replace them).

No doubt, if the money is there then by all means. I don't think the Eagles will have that luxury, though. They like Sudfeld, and he hasn't looked horrible when he has played (pre-season). I wouldn't imagine that Foles is still here next year.CAA Flagship wrote:"Having a worthy backup QB, or three, is valuable."GannonFan wrote:

Ten games on a neutral field, how many do you think the 2007 Giants win against the 2007 Pats? How about last year's Eagles vs last year's Patriots?93henfan wrote:So the Giants two Super Bowl wins over NE were flukes too? Roger that.

I would imagine, given the shortness of NFL careers, that Zeke will demand a new contract this offseason. Cooper as well.

That 2017 Eagles team was pretty f*cking good
Now as far as the 2007 Giants v 2007 Patriots
I'd take that money all day - that patriots team was better in all three phases of the game than the Giants
They just lost that game...

Can't answer until we know if the Pats will have videotape of the Giants sideline after the first game or not.Grizalltheway wrote:Ten games on a neutral field, how many do you think the 2007 Giants win against the 2007 Pats? The idea that the Eagles had one good year and fell off is impossible. Roger that.93henfan wrote:So the Giants two Super Bowl wins over NE were flukes too? Roger that.
Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread
That's not an idea. That's fact. They've been decimated by injury this season. They'll be back healthy and winning the NFC East again next year. Hell, they played the Cowboys within a score twice, as banged up as they got this year. (Plus very one-sided officiating in Dallas as always, negating two Eagles scores on clearly incorrect calls.)Vidav wrote:The idea that the Eagles had one good year and fell off is impossible. Wentz is not expected to play this week. Which of course means the Eagles are going on a run with Foles and will win it all.

Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread
Well, the Eagles win out and get a little help with the Vikes losing and they could make the playoffs. However, last year Foles had the luxury of a real NFL secondary on the defensive side of the ball when he wasn't on the field so I wouldn't hold out hope for Foles to replicate last year's run. But the word is they might shut him down for the rest of the year - I wouldn't argue with that.Vidav wrote:Wentz is not expected to play this week. All the more reason to sit now and get to have an offseason where he can actually participate and throw rather than one where's he just rehabbing.Gil Dobie wrote:Might be worse than we know.Vidav wrote:Wentz is not expected to play this week. Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread
What's the drama on your end? If the Eagles were still really alive and likely to make the playoffs Wentz would be playing this week. Word is it's a cracked vertebrae but nothing that won't heal on it's own. If the Eagles had won in Dallas last week he'd be playing against the Rams this week. Once the playoffs have become a dim possibility why risk him? We've seen the difference between a healthy Wentz and a non-healthy Wentz and I'd rather have the former next year than go through a year like this again.Grizalltheway wrote:GF as per usual...
