Seems to me that Cali has enough of the taxpayers money. $14.8B surplus in addition to $14.5B in savings is incredible. Cali should return some of that money. Or make some serious investments in the state that would benefit everyone.

That shouldn’t be an issue or an excuse for CA since they have a gazillion dollar budget surplus.Chizzang wrote: 3) Federal Funding for low income housing has been slashed

It is an issue because 80% of California's population doesn't care about the homeless problemCID1990 wrote:That shouldn’t be an issue or an excuse for CA since they have a gazillion dollar budget surplus.Chizzang wrote: 3) Federal Funding for low income housing has been slashed
and the other 20% are damn near homeless already based on income vs. cost of living
Homeless funding on the ballot doesn't usually pass in CA

But homelessness is mostly a West Coast problem

for the TL/DR crowd
1) West Coast Housing costs continue to rise even during the recession 10 years ago
2) Low wage earners income has not kept up with cost of living increases
3) Federal Funding for low income housing has been slashed
4) Top income earners wages have doubled in the past 20 years / compounding housing issues
5) There is no solution
Very Christian of you.
Re: All Things California
I was flying from NYC to DC tonight - something I've done a million times before and never cared about- but at some point the airplane was angled so you could see both Philadelphia ahead and New York City if you looked back. And it really hit me that the parade of lights connecting both cities - as well as the enormity of lights throughout the entire flight - is a reflection of mostly-progressive policies over decades and centuries (for their periods). From the mind-boggling infrastructure, the upward opportunities created, and the economic hegemony achieved, past and present people (citizens and non-citizens) of the Northeast megalopolis simply look forward and continually improve upon their slice of the world.

Just gotta trust in the grand plan. Either that or your religion is the wrong one.

Not speaking to the homeless issue but I was at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast yesterday and the topic was residential development for our very quickly growing area of Spokane County. The Growth Management Act, zoning, and monopolistic control of water resources in our area by certain local governments have driven down the availability of land which of course drives up the cost. They're building $300,000-$400,000 homes like mad but there will soon be a severe shortage of affordable housing due to land prices and the restrictions placed on building multi-family units. It's great that Amazon is bringing in 3,000 jobs but $15/hour ain't gonna pay for those homes.
It was very interesting and on the one hand pushes kalm toward the conk side a little because of the unintended consequences of over-regulation. On the other.....

Yes, invest in infrastructure. But put a hold on raising taxes for now and leave the rest for a rainy day fund when the cocksuckers crash the market and send us into another recession.Ibanez wrote:If they have such a surplus, what's the logic behind taxing the people even more?houndawg wrote:

There’s nothing wrong with progress and moving forward and Republicans are in favor of advancing the culture- they have a different idea than you that isn’t based on purely radical social ideals, that’s what you don’t get.∞∞∞ wrote:I was flying from NYC to DC tonight - something I've done a million times before and never cared about- but at some point the airplane was angled so you could see both Philadelphia ahead and New York City if you looked back. Well, can't speak for CA, but it does get cold here in the EC-B, especially the northeastern part of it. And it snows. Lots of people are getting older and retiring, and they're not sticking around when there are warmer climates available.Baldy wrote:Then why are so many moving away?∞∞∞ wrote:I was flying from NYC to DC tonight - something I've done a million times before and never cared about- but at some point the airplane was angled so you could see both Philadelphia ahead and New York City if you looked back. Only when it is beneficial to scare the church-goers into voting against "something evil". The rest of the time the country worships the dollar. I’d suggest you do one of a few things to achieve your vision of a true Christian nation...dbackjon wrote:Only when it is beneficial to scare the church-goers into voting against "something evil". 1. Change the Constitution to allow the federal government to provide universial healthcare, because it currently isn’t a federal responsibility. I know folks like you and Trip don’t like hearing that, but it is a fact. But fear not, the Constitution has a method of changing it, proving how progressive the founding fathers were...and I agree with this. But it does take some work that I doubt you want to take on.
2. Void the Constitution and start all over...hold on to your hat for that one, because I believe that will entail a civil war of some kind...
3. Keep passing laws like Obamacare, allow anybody who wants to claim refugee status to come in, and redistribute the wealth of those who have made money to pay to improve the situation of the poor...and eventually, we wil become Venezuela-North...
Christ said we wil always have the poor, but told us to help the poor...and if we don’t we will be judged accordingly...
He never said for the government to take responsibility of accomplishing that...
The United States is not, and never has been, a Christian country in the sense that Christian faiths are official religions of the country...
Judeo-Christian philosophy was the Founders basis for developing the Constitution...but they knew this country was populated by people escaping various forms of religious persecution...
I don’t want a Christian nation...I want a nation that follows its Constitution as written...
