Matthis resigning as Defense Secretary over Syrian Pullout

Way to leave our allies in the lurch. Look for many dead Kurds. And handing Syria to Russia. Vlad is cashing in all his favors before the Mueller report comes out.

So what are we talking about? 2000 troops in an advisory role? We taught them what they need to know. Can't we still support them without being there every day?

Wouldn't that be nice... if we could just leave

8-)

all we needed was a president more beholden to Putin than Northrop Grumman to make it happen

It is absofuckinglutely hilarious to watch donks defend the need to stay at war. If this were Obama making this decision you’d be standing in line to suck his cock.

I swear, there is literally nothing Trump could do that would satisfy some folks.

Of course, that applies to both sides. The right derided every move Obama made as well.

We're past any point of civil discourse. The Kavanaugh confirmation is the new norm. With the advent of partisan talk radio and the internet, nobody ever has to engage the other side of the political spectrum. They can just circle-jerk everyone on their side 24/7.

Rand Paul and Reason are delighted. Anyway, Trump never did like the Syrian conflict. Now he’s talking about pulling out of Afghanistan as well. I’m not sure I see what all the fuss is about.

Curious who will step into this hot mess.

If Flynn hadn't delayed his sentencing... maybe he'd be available.

Whitaker?

Edit: occurred to me that Erik Prince would be a perfect candidate.

 The Taliban is still chopping heads and hands off in the vast swaths we don't control, as their various iterations have done for centuries between the distractions of the occasional foreign crusader or profiteer.

Speaking of profiteers, I still don't regret turning down the $271K/year job offer I got back in 2011 to go to that cesspool as a private contractor. I might he headless myself by now.

Right on cue:
WASHINGTON—A day after a contested decision to pull American military forces from Syria, officials said Thursday that President Trump has ordered the start of a reduction of American forces in Afghanistan.

More than 7,000 American troops will begin to return home from Afghanistan in the coming weeks, a U.S. official said.

Imagine:
if the nation actually cheered Trump on as he withdrew from these burning money pits around the world

The fact that he's not beholden to Exxon-Mobile Royal Dutch Shell and every defense contractor
is really astounding

I'd like to be the first flaming Liberal to shake his hand

None of the troop commitments to these shitholes ever received the required Congressional authorization under the War Powers Act. And Congress is too gutless to assume its statutory and Constitutional powers. Trump should explore every unauthorized troop deployment around the world under this lens and cancel it.

Listening to NPR last night and they threw out the idea of Petraeus possibly getting the nod. Now that would be a heckuva confirmation hearing.

Honestly, I didn't even know we had troops in Syria. I bet there's tons of places we have troops that people don't know. Whether pulling out of Syria is the right thing or not (and I've heard very good arguments on either side of the question) I think it is a good thing to at least question why we have troops in harms way wherever they are. If we're asking for people to die for something we should at least be cognizant of why we're doing it.

That’s what the fvcking War Powers Resolution is for, Ganny. And guess how many times its procedures have been invoked since its passage in 1973. Hint: it’s a very small number.
