See - this is you being low-info

You need to read more than the clickbait headlines

I assumed you were saying in America only - that's not the quibble

Read the Bloomberg article and you'll find two easy facts:

1. Tesla 3 is outselling all cars EXCEPT for 4 other sedans

2. Tesla does not break out sales by country -

Regardless, Tesla is doing well after a bumpy rollout on the Model 3 and I'm glad

But saying it is the #1 selling car in ANY category in Murica is not supported by any of those articles.

I said luxury in its category.

And I linked American sales and European sales for the Tesla S; the Tesla 3 is only sold in America so far.
For the niche Model S you're correct - large luxury. I'll give you that- its a 120k car...

Im mainly thinking the Model 3 here - since for Tesla, thats where the rubber meets the road

None of your links support the Model 3 outselling everybody else... nor do any of those links classify it in the luxury class (because it isnt). It falls into 4th place

Not trying to bump in here but...

1) Have you sat in a Tesla Model 3 / because its absolutely a luxury car
2) Have you driven a model 3 / because it blows the fucking doors off any gas machine under $100K
3) Tesla has sold and delivered 114,000 Model 3 units this year
4) 22,495 Model S units in 2018
5) 22,100 Model X units in 2018

For a stock that opened at $18.49 in 2012
And today is over $300

Everything is going to work out okay

From the article:
First it was America’s best-selling electric car. Then it became the best-selling luxury car. Now, against the odds, Tesla Inc.’s Model 3 is becoming one of the best-selling sedans in America, period.

No, but I’ve sat in and driven the S

I assume the 3 is more of the same - but I’m failing to see how it’s a luxury car, unless that’s just an arbitrary stamp somebody put on it

I’m not pulling against Tesla - I hope Elon Musk takes over the world

Okay,
First get in the BMW 320i
MSRP: $34,900 - 66,500
(considered a luxury car by the auto industry)

Then get in a Tesla Model 3
That ought to be enough to get you on the right page...

You're not going to touch a Model 3 for $34K. You're looking at $55K+. Much more luxury can be had at that price point than what you'll find in the fairly spartan Model 3.

The BMW 3-series is so much nicer than a Tesla Model 3, and my 3-series (335d deleted and tuned to 400hp and 600ft-lb) would destroy a Model 3 in the 1/4 mile or on a track and still gets 40mpg. (and I have less than $20K invested in it)

Here is a comparison of a Model 3 and a 3-series interior. No contest whatsoever.

Stop it. Don't discourage people from buying electric cars. I'm looking forward to the increased electric sales and better utilization of our coal plants during off peak hours to meet the demand.

Hey, when Tesla gets to an economy of scale where they can put a truly luxurious, torque monster of a car in showrooms for a true ~$40K, I will be all-in. I am not a Tesla hater. They're just not to a BMW level of sweet yet, dollar for dollar. The Model S is fucking awesome if you have the $120,000 to pick one up, but I don't allocate that kind of budget to cars.

I actually like the Tesla 3's interior design a lot more. It's way cleaner.

I'm sure the materials is comparable.

You know what the Model 3 interior reminds me of?

The interior of the new 7000 series trains on the Metro. Clean, simple, utilitarian, hard and cold. I haven't actually driven one, so I could be way off, but these observations seem to bear that out:

https://model3ownersclub.com/threads/ho ... able.8061/
https://model3ownersclub.com/threads/ne ... tion.7062/
https://model3ownersclub.com/threads/5-things.5829/

People also seem to have complaints about the lack of quick and easy access to controls. Everything is hidden in that giant iPad they affixed in the middle. BMW made that mistake with the very first year of iDrive back around 2005 (I forget the exact year) and they quickly revamped the whole system and it's awesome now. They peppered buttons around the base of the dial to get you right where you need to be with a single push. Or, if you don't want to move your eyes down, you can still dial everything in.

I can tell you that the sport model leather seats in my 3-series are sublime. The lumbar support can be inflated/defalted to desired firmness and then can be moved to the sweet spot of your back, up or down. The lateral support can be made tighter or wider, to just the right feel of the wings of the seat hugging you. There are adjustable under-thigh supports. And of course you can move the seat in seemingly dozens of directions to make it as custom as you want. It's insanely awesome on long drives. Gotta be careful not to fall asleep.

Oh no doubts, BMWs have some of the best interiors out there. The new 3-series looks great too.

I'm only stating that I like the interior design of the Tesla 3.

On a side note, as a Mazda fanboi, I came a little when I saw the new Mazda3.

They need to make an awd Speed3 to fill the void of the Evo being discontinued and keep Subie pushing the envelope on the STI. I haven't followed that genre lately. Is one in the works? I know the Focus RS was promising but developed overheating issues with the awd. No bueno.

None in development; unfortunately Mazda's content with the Miata being their only sports car.

The Evo and STI were a step above the Focus RS though. The only thing competing against the STI now is the Golf R and Civic Type-R (although no AWD there). I'd argue the BMW 2-series deserves to be in the conversation too.

Below that level of performance you still have the GTI, Civic Si, and WRX. With Ford's disappearance from the market though, Hyundai's jumped in with the Veloster N.

At 6'2", 270 lbs, I can't squeeze my fat ass into any BMW that doesn't start with a 7. I prefer the Tesla look as well, and I've driven a 750 iL and a Tesla Model 3...the 3 was faster.

I would hope so with the 750 weighing half a ton more. And by faster, I know you mean "off the line". The 750 will still beat a Model 3 in the quarter.

And let's be honest. You're completely bullshitting about fitting into a BMW 3 or 5. They can fit anybody who's not morbidly obese; 6'2" 270 is no issue at all. They're very roomy cars. In fact, the front seats aren't drastically different from the 7 series. It's the rear passengers who get the benefits in a 7 series.

I can't speak to a convertible. I have never once had the desire to own or drive one. I'm more into handling in cars than sunburn and fucked up hair.

You'd fit easily in a 3 sedan.

The 10 Best New Cars for Tall Drivers

BMW 3 Series/4 Series

Yes, that perennial favorite of the automotive writer also happens to be a great car for those of the taller persuasion. Whether it’s a simple stick-shift 320i, a torquey 328d wagon, a 435i xDrive convertible or a balls-to-the-wall M4 coupe, every member of the 3/4 Series family is a solid choice for tall guys who love to drive.

Except the 3 Series Gran Turismo. Tall or short, nobody likes that car.

Oh bullshit
You can't quite suck your own dick... but keep trying

Tesla Model 3's are $46K with rear wheel drive and 3.5 sec 0-60 mph
The BMW 335d is 7.0 sec highly modified and falling out of an airplane to get it under 7.0

There isn't a BMW 335 alive that can stay on the track with a Tesla model 3
The Model 3 just set the street legal track record at Legun Seca this year
The Model 3 at $60K was beating M3's at Leguna Seca that were over $100k fully modded and chipped

:dunce:

Just check Youtube for any race between a Model 3 and a BMW M3 Modded
The M3 gets smoked in the Quarter Mile
Of course they uses the $72K Model 3 in that race

I DO have an abnormally long torso, no joke. Seriously short legs, long back. When i sit upright on an airplane, the top of the seat hits me at the shoulders. It looks like I'm 6'9", seriously. It's a pain when you can't fit into certain vehicles. :ohno: :ohno:

I haven't been to the strip yet. Bought the car for $14K in July and had the mods done in Atlanta in October.

The mods are: EGR/DPF/SCR systems deleted, JR 2.8 remap, straight exhaust, upgraded intercooler and intake.

Cars with the same set-up routinely do mid 12s in the quarter. Expert drag drivers get down to high 11s.

Here is one in Europe doing mid 10s:
