Baldy was trying to claim they were just a bunch of plucky lawyers with friends in DC

Here's what those links establish

1) They are a full blown Lobby Organization
2) They generate millions in revenue from Lobby Contracts
3) They are in the Business of Political persuasion for money

:coffee:

and they just hired a politician / Lawyer

So lets move past "He was just an accountant" he didn't know he was working for the MOB
The story book CID and Baldy are selling is great - Technically Gowdy is just a lawyer
Never mind that 90% of all Lobbyists are lawyers
and he now works for a Lobby Firm as a Lawyer

But he won't register as a Lobbyist... So therefore he isn't

Here's one for you: Republicans are for smaller Government
Even though they out spend every Democrat they replace
But don't let that stop them from letting you know "They're for smaller government"

My argument is much simpler and requires a lot less word salad -

When Trey Gowdy is shown to be lying then I'll condemn him. He has said himself, unequivocally and in public - that Warren needs to be more sensitive to facts, and that he is not a lobbyist.

In fact, we have a battery of lawyers who work for the State Department doing EXACTLY what Trey Gowdy is actually doing. They have them at every single executive branch bureau, and private firms also have them. Trey Gowdy could just as easily be working for State but we don't pay nearly as well as the private sector (and therefore don't attract the talent)

I ignored your last comments since they are just another straw man diversion, and I have already said that Republicans are not for smaller government in fact

Okay, I'll play along - lets say it's coincidental that Gowdy took a job at a Lobby Firm...
It's an incredibly inconvenient coincidence - nonetheless
he's just going to do legal paperwork shuffling and not use his political influence

My point with making other observations is - people say all kinds of things to defend themselves
particularly when the evidence is inconvenient or coincidental or like in this case both

Question:

Smaller Government (Nope)
Higher Morality (Nope)
Lobby Peddling (yup)
disbanding Political ethics committees (Yup)

So what exactly do republicans stand for right now..?
Military spending..?
Building a wall but not enforcing illegal employment laws..?

I don't get it...
They quite literally are the party that offers nothing

Making arguments about Republicans that I have made myself is an interesting diversion from what I'm talking about

But you did bring up an interesting point -

When Congress and the Executive are so obviously unable and unwilling to govern... who will make policy?

My guess is the lobbyists

But anyway - get back to me when someone shows that Trey is lying... I'm sure the Harvard Squaw has an army of supporters looking as we speak

Look it all them straw men ol Clitz is just knocking em down!

He said he’s not lobbying, and nobody has provided any evidence that he is -

And providing access to congresscritters IS lobbying

I’ll be the first to condemn him as soon as somebody actually shows that he’s lying - I’m as against it as anybody. But this bobbleheading over Gowdy is a little Trumpy to me.

You guys seem ok with it though
Yeah....and there's no quid pro quo in campaign finance either. You can't prove that!

Just stop. You're way too cynical (which I admire) to believe what you're typing.

You can write that down...
If he doesn't register as a lobbyist

and then actually does it -

he's breaking the law. And I am pretty sure that someone named Trey Gowdy isn't going to be breaking the law without a half a million liberal harpies in the media pouncing all over it and shouting "lock him up"

And I'm not talking about whether he registers or not - I know what he's doing and I know it isn't lobbying. So you are not, in fact, correct - actually OR technically

But I'm on board with the rest of your stuff there at the end

Prove to me he’s lying.

I work for a bank. Doesn’t mean I deal with money.

When it’s PROVEN that he lied, then I’ll gladly call him out. Until then, I have to take the man at his word.

Also, he has wizard training so watch yourself.

Isn't the truth probably somewhere in the middle? Gowdy won't do any "official" lobbying so he won't have to register and therefore isn't technically a lobbyist but he can and will be involved with providing assistance to his clients in a variety of ways including helping them with legislative and regulatory bodies. He won't cross the line but whether he is or isn't involved in lobbying depends on your definition of lobbying.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

All other things aside Warren is just too "stiff" to be a viable candidate. The Democrats would be making a mistake in nominating her. It may be a little unfair in a sense. She has a lower middle class background and such. But the way she comes off just doesn't work. And that'd be the case regardless of all the Native American Ancestry stuff.

Is this how we get away from the uncomfortable fact that Trey isn't lobbying? By diverting to whether or not Nelson Mullins is a political lobbying firm?

She has a lower middle class background and such. But the way she comes off just doesn't work. And that'd be the case regardless of all the Native American Ancestry stuff.
It's already been decided, there's no way she's the candidate for the Dems. She'll never have the backing of the spirited portion of the progressive wing of that party - you can already hear rumblings from the college campus crowd (students and faculty) that she's damaged goods (and that is partly because of the Native American thing). They don't dislike her, but she's not seen as a strong candidate. She's in the race to be a factor in helping to pick who is the ultimate candidate, and to keep herself in the running for an important post come January 2021 if the Dems win back the White House.

So, you're kind of full of ****...
Next, You claim that somehow because I didn't know about Nelson Mullins
That I should ignore their posted mission Statement
The mission statement where they refer to themselves as a Political Lobby firm

And the myriad of listings showing how many millions of dollars they generate as a lobby group
all published for any idiot to read - any regular old idiot

So I'm not sure what your point is
A) That they are NOT actually who they say they are

I’m amazed that this thread has gone on for so long on such an earth-shattering subject. I thought there would have been more play on Joe Lieberman’s new lobbying client.

But he promises to register next week

Perhaps the laws have changed since 2016, but Tom Daschle...clearly not a lobbyist for years and years. Nope, he was an advisor (among other titles). Just take his word for it.

Don't tell CID... it'll break his heart

This: Hilarious
After 10 years of “policy advising,” “strategic consulting” and “government affairs” work, Tom Daschle is finally registering as an out-and-out lobbyist...
