What other inference can you draw when they call the wall "immoral" (because then borders must be too)

Or that the one agency responsible for policing illegal immigration should be abolished

That's open borders, Clarence
meh.. Customs, Coast Guard, Border Patrol...maybe they need to snap to and start earning their seat on the Gravy Train

Wrong-

None of the those have law enforcement powers over people who are illegally in the US.

The majority of Americans don't want the wall and so far, polling shows most Americans are putting the blame on Trump and the GOP. You gotta remember, Conks controlled all chambers when this thing started.

So Trump called the Congressional leadership to the White House this afternoon and asks Pelosi if she'll agree to a wall within 30 days if he opens up the Government now. She said, "no". He walked out.

The art of the deal.

I mean, seriously, what was he expecting her to say, "yeah Don, and how high?"

The guy is willing to make 800,000 civilian families and 50,000 Coast Guard active duty families unpaid pawns for his little bitch fit. :ohno:

Trump is looking like a complete terd in this whole fiasco. Apparently there are three Republican Senators ready to open government without a wall and another six almost ready to crumble. I think it's time they move on without Trump. No need to attach themselves to his stench.

Had a fourth project "delayed" because the owner needs to re-evaluate if they'll have money for it. We don't even work with the government, yet we're losing projects because our clients have contracts with the government where the profits are budgeted into other things. A major private airline I work with said they're losing about $200K/day in revenue right now (not sure about the profits).

We're not directly affected, but the ripple effect is there...

Why is it unilaterally HIM that is making them unpaid pawns? Virtually every single democrat was FOR a wall when Clinton and Obama were president. Literally the ONLY reason they're against it now is because TRUMP is for it. They could just as easily end the shutdown by agreeing to something they agreed with for the past 20 fucking years instead of pitching a hissy fit because it wasn't their idea.

That is fake news. Democrats voted for border security, which included SOME fencing/walls in urban areas (where it makes sense). Democrats have NOT been in favor of destroying the border, taking private land and state parks, and clearing a 1/4 swath of land for Trump's boondoggle.

You are so predictable. You pretend to "just right of center", but in fact you are a hard-core righty.

Hen already provided some links but it's pretty clear that the body of polling shows that a majority opposes building a wall along the border. You can Google around for yourself and see that. Also it's pretty clear that Trump is on the short end of the public opinion stick on this shutdown issue.

The legislative branch is 538 people of varied opinions. The executive branch is one guy who's acting like a petulant child, yet again.

There is no border crisis. Crossing are around 25% of what they were just a few years back.

PS. I'm for a barrier. One is already there, by the way. It's just really rickety and full of holes. Bush and Obama were already beefing it up in sections with stronger, higher steel sections. Continuing that effort would be fine and wouldn't take anywhere close to $5.7B. Trump needs to get off of his tantrum stance and accept less or suggest a peace offering like DACA and put 850,000 Americans back to work so they can feed their families and pay their bills. Be a man. Act like a fucking President for once.

Another group being hosed is patients applying to enroll in NIH clinical trials for cancer treatments and other diseases and illnesses. Many were days away from being admitted for last resort treatments.

Now they get to wait in the queue dying while those clinics are shuttered.

Trump will probably show them the same empathy he's shown federal employees and the Coast Guard by proclaiming in front of a camera that they support his fight for a pretty, concrete wall.

That IS pretty funny. I also saw when she jabbed at him about Mexico paying for the wall during her rebuttal speech.

given that the guy is almost completely ego driven, that's not the kind of language she should be using if she's looking for a deal in good faith, though. She scores points with her base but she antagonizes the guy who holds the purse strings right now. He's painted himself into a corner over the wall, but so has she with the "no wall, no discussion" stance.

Those comments are probably good for another 2-3 weeks of shutdown just out of spite alone. I don't see any good way out of this right now

I'm also wondering when she or Senator Schumer will mention the word "DACA" again

Has he backed away from the DACA offer? Because when I was back in the US a couple weeks ago I specifically heard him say he'd be open to a DACA - Wall deal. Did I miss something? He should at least make the offer directly to Pelosi - but at this point I don't know if she has the ability to accept anything for the wall

Pelosi has nothing to lose and is in the better negotiating position here. She has unanimous support from her colleagues and base. Trump is already seeing a splintering of support in the Senate. Several (R) Senators (Murkowski today for instance) have spoken publicly about their opposition to the shutdown and their desire to open the Government first and then negotiate border security.

Trump needs to be the one to make a move here. He hasn't offered anything. Instead, he's acting like a baby, per his lifetime M.O.

One missed paycheck, and 93 is all over Trump like an off-the-rack Brioni suit. What a difference two years makes!

Seriously, I hope you and the other 850,000 get paid soon. This little drama has gone on long enough.

I don't understand why nobody is talking about it. Trump may have forgotten he even floated it, that wouldn't surprise me. But Pelosi is not necessarily in a better position than Trump here - I'm sure DACA is important to her, but how does she say "no wall, no discussion" for so long and then work a DACA -for the wall deal? I don't think she can now, even if she wanted to.

And one thing people are forgetting about Trump... he doesn't seem like he really wants this job- not in the way professional politicians want it. Remember how there's speculation that he might not run for re-election? If he blows up the government he can walk away and then crow about how he would have won had he run again. I think people like Pelosi are viewing him as a conventional politician in this context and that is a mistake.

At this point, the only thing Pelosi can be hoping for is for a riot on the Republican side in the Senate. That could happen, but my impression is that would be a long way off. But anyone who says that the Dems are offering compromise here is deluded. Trump could end this by directly offering Pelosi a DACA deal and then hammering at it every day -

A DACA deal isn't going to happen.

It almost happened for $25 billion in wall funding last year... but, it was defeated.

But, Trump ended DACA. It's currently being fought in court.

This whole Wall urgency is about Trump playing to his base. He does something related to immigration whenever he needs it... when his poll numbers are sinking, right before the midterms, etc. Granted amnesty to illegals defeats his purpose.

That's beside the point - whether Trump ended DACA or not, the Dreamers are still here and a bill specifying their conversion to LPR status can happen - easily

Right now, no senator is going to put their name on blowing up a deal at this point and prolonging the shutdown

in politics, "last year" is as good as "last century"

The fact nobody is mentioning DACA speaks volumes
