I don't want MY tax dollars going to "help somebody get off heroin when they made a free choice to get ON heroin in the first place.

If you judge a nation by how she treats her most vulnerable, the United States of America is a gross failure. We are positively fvcked.

I agree with the wasted DoD dollars because I see it every day. The root of the problem is the federal appropriations process. Agency budgets are set by how much they spent last fiscal year, SO, each agency spends every dime it gets, even if it means buying stuff it doesn't need at the end of the fiscal year. They need to change it so that agencies get a bonus for spending less.

Regarding helping people get off heroin, I have no sympathy. They chose to start. They can find their own way out. Why waste taxpayer money on them? Take them out back and shoot them. Far cheaper to the taxpayer than rehab.

I agree with you 100%. And get rid of the electric chair and lethal injection, and bring back the firing squad. 3 guns, 1 bullet, 2 blanks. Oh and instead of life, you just get killed that day, no sense in taking care of you if we're only going to kill you.

Shit, once they are sentenced to death, just stop feeding them. If they want to appeal 1000 times, let them. They only have about 2 weeks before the organs shut down. Talk about cheap! No bullet, no blanks, no groceries, you don't even have to pay the 3 guys on the firing squad.

That is sick, evil and very inhumane.

- Universal health care is a viable and moral good and should be pursued AS LONG as there remains an option(a freedom, a choice by any other name)to either choose the public plan or maintain one's own private health care and this include abortion as well. Insurance companies have lived off the fat of the citizen for way too long.

- trickle down economics is a failure and tax cuts for the wealthiest 5% has done NOTHING to stiumulate this economy and the result is the crisis we are near almost a year into. That being said, I am still not sold on President Obama's stimulus act, although it is way too early to tell if it will succeed or not and it's only fair to allow him that time.

- I still foresee a split within the Democratic Party with one side being led by the Blue Dog coalition as a moderate/fiscal conservative group with the other group belonging to the far left. The GOP is dead in the water and as much as I hate to say this, no 3rd party is still strong enough to make a challenge for the white house in 2012 with Ron Paul being the one exception. 3rd party followers still support way too many agendas that most Americans will not even think about supporting.

- No one political party can claim to have the pulse of the American populace. Polls are skewed and major cable outlets, both "liberal" and "conservative" have only one agenda and that is too make money all while rattling our emotions. The day Americans turn these people off, although they are entertaining at times, and start to think for themselves and let it show in their voting process and more importantly in how they treat their fellow American, legal and illegal, will be the start of a much needed return to humility for our nation which will bring about the peaceful reclaiming of our nation from those who continually subvert us for their own selfish gains. Peace. :)
There is no room for a well thought out post on this thread CMan. ;)

The national debt when divided by number of families now equals over $90,000.

Now with the national health care debacle we are faced with, that needs funds too, so lets kick in another $14,000 a year per family for that as well.

If we pay the 90K off over ten years, that's $750.00 per month, add $1170.00 for the health coverage, and you have a total of $1920.00 per month to get us out of this mess. Singles would only have to pay $1,000 a month.

Let's get to paying that off now, and next time some elected butt wipe starts acting like he wants to de-regulate the financial industry and start wars of choice around the globe, maybe some of those families will start to take notice, and consider the costs of such behavior.

Might also start to notice the atrocious rates being charged by our medical industry as well.

I have to chime in on the addiction bit. It has to be cheaper to send someone through treatment then it is to lock them up in accordance with MMS. Three strikes or even two might be a penny saver.

Can you imagine the money we would save on healthcare if our kids got some modicum of education on how to take care of themselves.

I know this is a huge reach, but fvck, if we are looking for answers, lets not be so weak as to exclude the obvious.

I agree. Now like someone said, horse/water/etc. but starting good habits at school is a start.

UNI dropped the lab part of personal wellness...the more Allen is running campus, the more stupid decisions that come from his office.

The money spent on the space program is ridiculous. We only got into it because the Ruskies did.

Personal Hygiene should go hand in hand with what SG advocates as poor hygiene spreads germs which cause sickness and add to our overall health costs as well. You wouldn't believe the amount of people I see almost daily who a) don't wash before they eat, b) don't wash after using the restroom, c) put their dirty hands in their ears, nose, and mouth.

I always observed that those who pay little or no taxes want taxes raised on those who actually do pay taxes...

... as for our current tax system, the problem isn't, wasn't, and never will be that the American taxpayer is undertaxed; the problem is the American politician's irresponsible spending of that money.

Very good point, bluesoftballs...

Wasteful spending has been going on for decades, from both parties.

That's a really nice (albeit horribly misleading) graphic, Jon. How much is the cost of peace?
