Without fanfare, President Trump signed into law Wednesday afternoon a measure ensuring that federal workers will get paid for lost wages during the partial government shutdown.

Mr. Trump signed the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019, which requires the compensation of government employees for wages lost, work performed, or leave used during the shutdown that began on Dec. 22.

The bill-signing took place in the Oval Office, without news cameras present.

Said by the same guy that was perfectly fine with the Democratic leadership and cabal that ran roughshod over and stampled out democracy in the nomination process in 2016 so to anoint Clinton as the Democratic nominee when Sanders was there as the voice of change and would've beaten Trump in the general election. Your ignorance and complicitness with the crony political status quo in the party that you blindly support is just as guilty of getting us into this. For shame, dback, for shame. :ohno:
It's only an issue when the "other team" is doing it. :dunce:

And therein lies the irony of this whole situation.

Nope, sell some of those toys you got. Then when that well dries up, hop in the soup line and get on the welfare just like everyone else in the private sector when they hit the skids. Welcome to the real world...except with these gubmint employee cases, they actually have a fat check and a job waiting for them when all this finally blows over.

Welp I got paid

And we found out that since we are self funded, as long as we keep operating, we'll have the money to keep doing so (talk about a positive loop)

No, but I did just stop automatic contributions to both of my sons college funds ten minutes ago and I'm going to the unemployment office tomorrow to start the paperwork for an unemployment insurance claim. I'm good on my rainy-day fund until about April 1. I was expecting this shutdown to be over by tomorrow, but it appears Trump is content to withhold the livelihood of my family and 850,000 other families until he gets his way.

But I'm glad you're not impacted at all. That's all that matters.
Oh so you "lost" your job on the whim of management? Now you know how it feels for millions of those in the private sector. Welcome to the real world.
Here's another of SD's posts (out of countless many) that I didn't respond to at the time.

I mean, show just a little bit of compassion for people who are in a shitty situation through no fault of their own. I lived through job turmoil on my own in the private sector and it sucked. I’ve lived through it through my dad when his job of 40 years was outsourced to Malaysia and he was given a pink slip. That really sucked. Whenever the private sector takes a hit, I feel badly for those people and will send them nothing but kind words and whatever help I can. I never fucking tell them something snide like, “welcome to the real world buddy!”

Who fucking does that? Why in hell would you want to kick people when they're down?

It's cruel and reveals a pathetic shortcoming in your personal make-up. I kind of feel sorry for people as simplistic and uncaring and cold as you. There are so many people just like you on Trump's side and you're really making him look even worse than he makes himself look. Do you practice your lines with AG1?

I mean, we have many people on this site who have dealt with or are dealing with shitty situations and I've never seen you treat them like that:

We have a guy who fights alcoholism -- "Welcome to the real world, buddy! Just drink in moderation like the rest of us!"

We have a guy who has had a terrible run of bad luck with property damage, auto theft, family medical issues, and death in the family -- "Hey, suck it up man. Shit happens to all of us. You'll be just fine!"

We have a guy whose father is painfully withering away -- "Get over it. Everybody dies!"

Is that how we should treat people we enjoy spending time with here?

I don't think so.

Gotta agree with the jarhead on this one, SD.

Gov’t workers are people too...caught in the middle of a fucked up situation through no fault of their own, waiting for an adult...ANY adult....to show themselves in DC.

In a few minutes, I'm flying DCA-JFK for the millionth time and what would normally be a fairly full flight is basically half-empty. In fact DCA is pretty calm right now where I'm at when it's usually buzzing for the first flights of the day. On the other hand security was quick and people were super nice to TSA (lots of "thank you's"). I'm curious to see how security is on the way back.

I've already had an airline client tell me they're losing revenue; this is my first flight since the shutdown and anecdotally, I believe it.

Nice to see someone actually drop the charade on here and tell it like it is.

I hope that you and hundreds of thousands of other people get back to work soon. I also hope that karma falls heavily on Donald J. Trump for what he has done to our country and our democracy.

I got a little emotional there, late at night. I still like Brown people.

Also, I'm kind of a dick sometimes too. Mea culpa. Apologies on any dickish posts I've ever made.

Some good news: my damn W2 finally became available today, so I just went on TurboTax and did my Fed and State returns. Getting enough of a refund to cover two months of expenses, so that was nice. I should be good through summer before I'd need to file bankruptcy!

I'm not in a crisis. Just a lot of uncertainty, and that part SUCKS. If they said, "hey, you'll be shut down until April 1," for instance, people could plan accordingly. The ones with no savings, for instance, could just cut their losses and immediately go look for another job. The vast majority of us, though, have a lot invested in our careers and our skills might not necessarily be translated to the private sector, so what do you do? You're pretty much compelled to wait.

I know. I went through the 2013 shut down/sequester. That sucked and it was 16 days (IIRC).

In the mean time, have you thought about a life of crime to pay the bills/pass the time?
