FCS sequence in East West Shrine Game

Post by JohnStOnge »

Ok I have to look for my McNeese State fan moments but bear with me. There was a sequence in today's East/West Shrine game where McNeese State's BJ Blunt, playing for the West, made a diving interception at about the East 42 then got up (NFL rules) and returned it to the East 22. From there Easton Stick threw a TD pass. West ended up winning 21-17.

Hey McNeese State's B.J. Blunt was mentioned as having one of the "5 Best Prospect Performances" in the 2019 East-West Shrine game according to "The Draft Network." Article at https://thedraftnetwork.com/2019/01/19/ ... formances/.
BJ Blunt, LB, McNeese State
Blunt was such a delight to watch this week. Everything he does in practice and the game is at full-speed and exploding with energy. While he is undersized for the linebacker position and a transition to safety is inevitable, there is no denying his nose for the football.

Racking up six tackles, Blunt showed off his range and processing skills while he also made a diving interception. He may be from the small-school ranks and have tweener traits, but I am not betting against Blunt finding a role in sub-packages in the NFL while also being a dominant special teams performer. He has an infectious personality and love for the game that was obvious observing him throughout week.
BTW, one thing that hurt McNeese this season is that Blunt got hurt. I think it was during game 9 so he missed about half of that one along with games 10 and 11.

Another article with an encouraging assessment of B.J. Blunt:

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/281 ... raft-stock

In a section titled "Players Who Boosted Draft Stock:"
BJ Blunt, LB, McNeese State

Blunt's performance at the Shrine Game was exactly what you want to see from a player out of a smaller school.

Since there weren't a ton of scouts at McNeese State games this season, Blunt needs to impress scouts and coaches with every opportunity he receives.

The linebacker will have wowed NFL personnel throughout the week, and he capped off the strong showing in Florida with a diving interception.

Blunt was flying around the field on defense and special teams, and it's that ability that stood out to Draft Network's Jon Ledyard, who believes the effort in every aspect of the game could get Blunt a spot on a 53-man roster.

If he continues to impress ahead of April's draft, Blunt is going to end up as a solid value pick who could help a team fill out the back end of its roster.
