Re: How Long Will The Shutdown Last? (Dec 2018)
Not argueing your points, just pointing out all the media (including Fox) got it wrong- those people didn’t dig a “tunnel” under the fence. When your dog digs under your fence to escape, he isn’t digging a tunnel, but a hole. Fido just needs a hole or trough under the fence enough to writher or through. Fido is able to escape not because fences don’t work, but because you have an inadequate fence design. If the fence extended several feet into the ground, Fido wouldn’t likely be able to dig under it. It was the same thing on a larger scale here- these people dug a hole under the fence, not a tunnel.Ibanez wrote:https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/po ... 613961002/SDHornet wrote: This. Anyone thinking a wall/fence/barrier won't inhibit the amount of illegals/drugs/crime crossing the border is off their rocker.
A wall is only part of the solution. We have walls. Let's work on something else. The largest single group of migrant families and minors ever recorded in the Yuma area tunneled underneath a border fence and voluntarily turned themselves in to U.S. Border Patrol agents, according to Customs and Border Protection officials in Arizona.
From the same article you posted.
"The bollards, when they were put in, they didn't have concrete footers, because it wasn't designed to stop from digging under, it was designed to stop the vehicle traffic," Garibay said....”
A physical barrier, if it isn’t done right (not tall enough, too easy to climb over; not thick enough, too easy to cut through; not deep enough, too easy to dig under), isn’t very effective. Video out today of a large group of illegals climbing over an existing 12-15? ft fence that isn’t high enough and the design is too easy for fit people to climb over. But if it is done right, it can be very effective. See the Israeli 400+ miles of (25-30 ft?) border wall. I bet there’s no video of large #s of people digging under or climbing over.

Read up on some of the tunnels dug from Tijuana to warehouses and homes in San Ysidro and Otay Mesa over the years. No wall proposed by Trump was ever going to stop that. And it doesn't matter now anyway, because Trump has already caved on building the massive concrete wall. And he's going to cave a little more by the time Pelosi is done with him. It might be an InvisiFence by the time he's done caving.BDKJMU wrote:Not argueing your points, just pointing out all the media (including Fox) got it wrong- those people didn’t dig a “tunnel” under the fence. SOTU was also planned well before the shutdown. That was Pelosi being an old, haggard little cunt. Her revocation was nothing but pettiness. She claimed it was due to security, when she hadn't even talked to DOHS & the SS, & the heads of both said security for the SOTU was no issue.Ibanez wrote:Nothing burger. If Trump would have signed the legislation he said he was going to on Dec 22nd and hadn't flip-flopped after McConnell got it passed, the Government wouldn't be shut down and Trump could have delivered his propaganda on time. Conks didn't have control of both houses as far as the budget is concerned- takes 60 votes in the Senate.Ibanez wrote:Maybe one of you can answer me this:
If the border wall is so necessary, then why didn't Trump get it down when he had control of both houses? Why couldn't he get it done then?
Push for "wall" funding was either going to be:
-Latter half of 2017, with the 2018 FY Budget. Wasn't the big fight latter half of 2017 tax cuts?
-Latter half of 2018, with the 2019 FY budget. Less likely to get funding for it 2018, being an election year, and donks unified against Trump being able to fullfill his #1 campaign promise.
-Latter half 2019, with the FY 20 budget, IF the conks had held House, since made pickups Senate.
Back late 2017 when dealing with the tax cuts, he might have thought conks would hold the House, and if he couldn't get the funding latter half 2018, would get it latter half 2019.

How many Presidents have been forced to postpone their SOTU due to a government shutdown entirely of their own making due to flip-flopping on signing a bill that their party's Senate passed? This is entirely Trump's doing, he can't get out of the corner he's backed himself into, and he's not going to be let out without major concessions such as agreeing to border funding without new wall and giving up amnesty.
This is going to be a disaster for his base, and he single-handedly perpetrated all the optics that go along with it.

True, but those tunnels are mostly built by the cartels, not for for smuggling people, but drugs. They aren't going smuggle hordes of illegals through their rather elaborately built tunnels, because loose lips sink ships. I remember hearing of at least one of those tunnels where after the tunnel was built, the cartels murdered all the laborers who built it, in order to keep it a secret.93henfan wrote:Read up on some of the tunnels dug from Tijuana to warehouses and homes in San Ysidro and Otay Mesa over the years.
